So I been having trouble passing emmisions. After my car failed by .02 the mechanic determined it was the catalytic converter. I replace that and go back for the second attempt and some how.... it does worse. I didnt know where to turn from here so we decided to seafoam the engine replace oil spark plugs fuel pump. Before I seafoam it though I notice that smoke is now coming out of the muffler and out of the head of the engine between the timing belt and number 1 sparky plug. Geeez Im praying that it isnt a cracked head, take the spark plug out and what do you know its covered in oil... I do not know where to go from here. Sell the car and buy that cheap tsi or just fix the head and pray it passes its last run through emmisions.

I left out a key thing. I put the spark plug in and drive it around a little. Just to see what it was doing. The check engine light comes on and there is a loud whining noise from the trunk. Im thinking its my system or something but it turns out to be the fuel pump making some crazy noise. Has anyone ever had this? Its pretty high pitched loud enough to hear outside the car. and it just whines or beeps. Sort of like when someone is censored on tv. Let me know

I would take out the pump and inspect it, make sure everything looks ok. When they get clogged completely they can make a crazy noise. Also check fuel filter.

Do you have oil in the spark plug hole or oil on the electrode part? Could be a valve cover gasket.

As far as emissions are concerned (what pump did you install? Stock?) If its a larger pump you could be running rich.

If it were me I wouldn't spend a whole lot on her, 4g63's go for pretty darn cheap these days

It is a stock pump. and i have yet to remove the head but it seems to be only on the electrode of the spark plug. And now its throwing a p30- something code saying the spark plug fouled. Im reall considering a 4g but dont have the funds right now. I just need my car to run right. and Im pretty sure ive already spent too much money on it.

If you havnt done a compression check I'd do that before pulling the head. Just go rent the kit from your local auto parts store.
