Ok I have a serious problem here. My 95 Eclipse GS Non Turbo is driving me crazy. At first it was sorta missing then I put new Bosch platnum 4 plugs in it. It ran "ok" for awhile then it started it again. I put a Fireball exauhst on it and a Cold air intake. Then to try to fix the problem I bought a fuel pressure tester. According to the chiltons the fuel pressure at idle it should be at 47-50 pounds I was getting about 40-41. I bought a new fuel filter, put it on and it gained about 2 pounds. I thought about the regulator but I unhooked the vacum line to it and it sat at 50 pounds. I think the regulator is fine. I replaced the fuel pump and that brought it up to about 46 or so. It still missed at about 2700-3000 up to 3500 or so. low rpms it wont and high it wont. So I bought new plug wires and put them on it fixed the miss but then it had absolutely no power at all. at it would not open up. I would hold down the gas in nuetral and it would bog out at 4-6 grand. Then it wouldnt start almost like no fire. Then it started and ran like crap. I thought it might be a clogged cat so I unhooked the cat and same thing. Only this time it cuts out at about 4 grand and almost dies until it falls back to 3 grand then picks up again a little. My big question is does it have obd2 or obd 1 cause it has the spot to hook up a scanner under the dash BUT it gives readable check engine light codes. It shows 12 and 55 and the other day it showed 12 23 and 55 in the book on the 93-94 models 12 is air flow sensor, 23 is camshaft position sensor. 55 is the end of the code I am guessing. But it shows 95 as OBD2. I am going to try to get ahold of a scanner soon. I was wondering if it moght be the coil pack. I need to get a good ohm meter to find out. Well thanks alot guys in advance. Any ideas would be appriciated.

sounds like your CAS took a dump.
first, I would do a compression test, and check the resistance of your maf to make sure it is in spec.
go to a junk yard and pull one off a low mileage car and hope the previous owner didnt pressure wash his engine bay without covering it with a bag...;)

o one more thing, it wouldnt hurt to pull the injectors run current thru them to open them up, and blow compressed air thru them backwards......it usually cleans out any particulate buildup.

I'm guessing CAS stands for Crank Angle Sensor? Whats does MAF stand for though?

What do you mean put current through the injectors?

This is my first fuel injected project. Im a hot rod guy.

Thanks for the help.

When you put current to the injector an electromagnet pulls on a rod that is normally pushed close by a spring. This rod normally(no current) is pushed against the inside of the injector and seals it shut, allowing no fuel to exit the injector. So, if you simulate this voltage that the MPI circuit delivers to the injector, it will open allowing you to "blow out" any debris that may be inside the injector. This is obviously done with the injector removed from the head and fuel rail...

the maf registers how much air is entering your intake path, and hopefully getting to the combustion chamber(ie: no leaks). If your MAF is bad, your air/fuel mixture will be off.

I thought about that and I feel like a retard because I cant find it. Anyone feel like helping me here?

you car is a obdII don't let anyone tell you different because it is. mine is so I'm sure yours is too. if you go to a auto store just lie and say its a 96 because they well try to say it isn't obdII :dsm:

I thought it was OBD2. We are going to hook it up to a scanner monday. I am going to put NGK's in it. I am getting a compression tester tomorrow and check it out. Thanks again for all the help.

Ok I did a compression test and I was afraid that it was going to turn out this way the readings came out as follows....

1-170 2-150 3-140 4-135(declines rapidly right after the engine stops cranking)

I reved it to 3 grand and it completely bogs out and backfires trough the intake, It smokes now and is running really ritch.
