I have a 91 6 bolt with oil pressure issues. I know already that the machine shop used the wrong sized rod bearings and as a result, my rods are reddish at the bottom next to the crank :barf: I already know they are ruined. But my actual question is would the oil filter bracket play a part in oil pressure also? I've been looking in my Haynes manual at the teardown diagram of the oil filter bracket. If it DOES in fact play a part in oil pressure, which part(S) are affected and need to be changed out to correct this detrimental problem? Lemme know what you guys think. :talon:

Well, if there's a (rather rare) problem, you may need to replace the pressure relief spring.

What exactly do you believe your problem to be?

Well, I know that undersized bearings will cause a low oil pressure. Yeah, dont ask me how that came to be, thats what this shop said I should use, but I just wanna know any and all possiblities for when I DO get the engine right, I wont have any problems like this in the future. If what you say is true about the pressure relief plunger and spring, where can I get another one from? I havent seen any for sale anywhere.

Ok, I just removed, disassembled my oil filter bracket and the oil pressure relief spring/plunger assy. It all seems ok, it didnt look like anything out of the norm. The spring still held tension ok, and the plunger wasnt damaged in any way. So im led to believe NOW that it is my rod bearings being undersized and all are causing my low oil pressure. They also are pitted and streaked. I looked at one today. :barf: :thumbdown :talon:

Ok, I found out what I DID NOT DO PROPERLY. Dont laugh but I didnt use the stub shaft in the oil pump because I got a used pump and thought that it was ok. I didnt block the other fwd balance shaft oil hole either because I cant find a way to get to it. OMG So yeah...im a F*ckin idiot for almost ruining my new engine. :barf: This is a perfect example of a balance shaft removal gone bad. :thumbdown This thread can be closed now. :talon:
