I went to go check my oil this morning and i found my engine bay was overflowed with oil.. I also noticed that the coolant was all over the place as well. The oil read low on the dipstick so i added a quart (amsoil). I drove it to my work and popped the hood to see if the oil overflowed again, and it did. If anyone can help me with my dillema thatd be great.. I was thinking it was the oil cap but Im not sure, it might be something more than that  . Here are some pictures of the oil overflowing.

check your PCV valve and vent hose then go to the parts store, buy a cheapo oil cap for that engine and replace the gasket on your old cap with the one that came on the new (probably Stant) cap.

If the oil is chillin on top like that it maybe consider the valve cover gasket, check inside the plugs and see if theres oil in the there. then it could be that. :thumb:

My 1g did that, I put an O ring on the oil cap and it fixed the problem. My 2g is doing it too, O ring didn't fix the problem. Waiting on my new vavle cover as we speak.

my car did the same thing replaced the valve cover gasket and the sparkplug well gaskets and it fix the problem

u should put new sparkplugs in too because is they have oil on them there probably no good

Like he said, the spark plug wire boots would be keeping that oil in, and the holes that the spark plugs are in would have to fill up with oil then leak out into the valve cover, thats ALOT of oil.
And it shouldn't be the valve cover gasket, as it's below that area. It has to be either the oil cap, or a crack in the valvec cover.

I don't know guys, I think there's too much oil too quickly to be just a gasket issue. I think it's more of excessinve crank case issue. Can you tell us where the coolant is coming from? How your pcv and breather is routed? Are you burnning any oil/coolant? Do a compression test to make sure the rings are not blown.

Yeah, when a friend of mine half melted down a piston and cracked a couple ring lands it pressurized the crankcase enough to blow out his dipstick and spray oil all over his turbo and manifold (SR20) starting a fire. It's very possible to just crack one piston and cause crankcase pressure that the PCV system can't handle.

I had the same exact problem. I just bought a 93 awd Talon and It came like that. Turned out it was the valve cover which had a crack on the inside corner of the timing belt side. I used JB weld which fixed it but plan on getting a nice powdercoated one soon.
One question?
The hose from the pcv valve is not attched to anything. Is this right?

Thanks, this site has been so helpful so far.

Wow, I've never had a dsm that didn't have oil up there like that  . Fixed my 2g with a new oil cap. My laser needs a new valve cover gasket and mainly the circle gaskets in the spark plug wells. Eventually, if you drive like that it will usually foul out a spark plug or 2. It could kill a plug wire as well.

i have a 96 eclipse gst that seems to have quite a bit of pressure in the head. Well i was pushing tons of oil out of the cap. I went to Advance Auto Parts and bought a 1g looking oil cap. All metal for like $6.50 works great, hasnt leaked yet.
