just a quick question. i recently installed my newly rebuilt motor. it started up but the tach doesnt seem to work. maybe i overlooked the connection... does anyone know where it would be in the engine bay of my 1990 tsi? or if it is connected is there another reason for it not working?

I think that would be the camshaft position sensor on the left side of the valvecover.Or the crankshaft position sensor. Ok now i am confused.

It's deffinately not the cas, since the car would'nt run if it was bad. The tach not working on a 90' is pretty common, one thing that goes bad alot is the tach filter. The tach filter is located on the intake manifold. The best thing is to pick up a repair manual or do a search on here for better directions on how to locate it exactly, since it's kinda hard to explain, but it will look like a small square metal box with a wire coming from it and it's bolted down to the intake.
