This might come off very newbish, but i'm lost when it comes to electronics and audio.

My headunit is currently wired into the stock harness by using two wires. The 12v (black and red wires) and the Blue (12v ACC) and it works with the ipod using a Red and White RCA to headphone wire (HU turned to "Tuner" setting).

Now, my questions is:

Can i just wire the 12v (red and black) to a switched 12v source (I.e ignition wire) and leave the 12v ACC off?

What is the 12v ACC and how would I be able to wire that?

Last but not least, Is this even possible?!

In the end i'm trying to remove the headunit and just run an ipod like the title says. Thanks in advance, i'm wearing the flame suit. :dsm:

Well, what kind of speaker/sub setup are you trying to run with your iPod?
Depending, you will probably need an amp and I don't think you'll be able to just wire up an iPod to an amp.
Though as an alternative you can just mount your headunit somewheres inside your console out of sight and run your ipod to that. Essentially this would be soley running off your ipod as far as looks are concerned.
Maybe someone with more expertise in custom audio can chime in, I have a feeling that while possible this could get expensive and at the very least merit some very careful thought.

Thanks guys

12v ACC = Accessory meaning I don't necessarily have to wire that to anything.

The stock wiring harness has no ground wire.

So i Just need to find a 12v power source (no problems)

The ipod is being run from the headphone input to two RCA's (male white and red), female connector, then to two male RCA's ran to my amp. My amp is a 600 watt if that makes any difference.

Is there anything else i need to be concerned with besides find a 12v power source?

Thanks for the quick response!

Yep, and that's how i did it.

Just for reference:

1. I cut the red/black (12v) wire and the blue (12v ACC) and just let them be
2. I had to wire the remote signal (from the amp) to a switched 12v supply to turn the amp on.
3. Wired the ipod using the RCA's mentioned earlier.

No distortion, clean install - Very happy!

No way dude...That is a sweet Idea.

I while back I wanted to do this ( you can probably find the threads) but no one even had a clue as what to do..nor did I. I ended dropping 150 on a pioneer and another 50 on the Ipod connector. It is sweet to control the ipod with a remote and have it hidden, but I think your new set up is great.

yea throw some pictures up.

Very simple really. Here's a few pics

Blue wire from the harness (12v ACC). The other blue wire is the remote wire to the amp. The red taped wire is the 12v that i left be.

I think it would be even better to connect the ipod to a preamp instead of directly to the amp. that way youll get better sound from it. and it will be easier to connect if you have more than one amp.
