No fuel problem, I can't even think straight anymore

Edmonton,
Here's the scenario from start to finish:
I pulled a 92 awd laser into the garage to get it going for winter so I can bring my truck into the shop. The car ran when it was moved roughly 6 months ago. When we tried to start it now, the fuel pump wouldn't do anything. I've taken parts off another car that ran last week to try and see what's going on. I've changed the fuel pump, fuel relay, couldn't find any bad fuses or fusible links.

I have the fuel pump wired on it's own now just to try and get it to do anything. I'm so frustrated I'm not sure if I'm thinking straight so if someone could double check my "circuit" and tell me why it still wouldn't be working when now have power straight from the battery to the pump.

It looks something like this

Battery+> ____5amp fuse>_______"+" terminal of manual switch_____"accesory" terminal of switch wired to "+" of fuel pump, ground terminal of switch to fuel pump "-"

If anyone has any suggestions as to how they would wire it up, or things I could check I'd be grateful, I'm far from an electrician, but I didn't think I was an idiot till I started working on this car:hmm:

Check for power on the black/blue wire at the connector at the pump housing while someone cranks the car over (outside the tank, just under the seat and taking off the metal inspection cover). IF you get power there, then the problem lies in the connector inside the tank, in the assembly it self. I've seen pins dislodge from the connector on the underside of the fuel pump housing. If you are not getting power to that first connector I mentioned. Then your problem lies elsewhere. Do actual testing and diagnosing, replacing things is the last step to fixing a problem, not the first.

I swear I've checked for power all the way to the pump, but I'll double check tomorrow with the pump still in the bracket wired up.

Have you checked the ecu for internal damage? It could be causing this problem. The capacitors could have leaked and destroyed the circuitry. They are known for causing problems like this.

I've eliminated the ECU from the equation, I'm not even trying to start the car, just getting the pump to work off the battery for now.

The ground is not correct, the ground for your pump should be coming from the chassis not from the switch, there is no ground terminal on a switch unless you're talking about a lighted switch, which would then be used to ground the internal light in the switch, not provide a ground for the pump

Sorry, it is like that, somewhat... The pump and switch (which is lighted) share a common grounding point. That shouldn't matter should it?
