North hatley,
HI

I run a 900hp modified pulling truck so performance and modifications arnt knew or scare me. What is new to me though is my sons DSM (eagle tsi awd). I knew the previous owner and the car was treated properly in its life but when it was given to my son the turbo had to be change due to a crack. My son went out and bought a kit off ebay. The kit wasnt sapose to be anything huge just something better then what was on the stock car. He said he emailed SSautochrome with questions and they said this kit was "bolt on" and was a good upgrade from the stock system. Well i started looking at the kit and its not exactly "bolt on" but i think i can handle everything to get it on.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me why it seems that not to many people think to highly of SSautochrome?

Also could you take a look at the kit he bought and give me an idea of what the wastegate would be set at? (if u have any idea) and tell me what that turbo would be compared to 14b, 16g ect.

any other info you guys have to help me out would be great
Thanks alot
Doug

Oh ya and im not putting on that BOV :)

In my opinion, the only thing I would ever consider buying from them is one of their FMIC kits. Although they too have problems, there are easy fixes to the problems and they're still a reasonable cheap product. Their products are generally poor quality and people have shared photos of flanges breaking off of exhaust manifold tubing and housings split in half.

I would stay far away from them if I were you

as stated above i wouldnt want anything to do with them ive heard of there manifolds rusting out, cracking, and the welds even breaking due to heat everything i have heard about them hasnt been good

First of all, tubular manifolds are, in general, not a great idea on a daily driver due to the excessive heat cycles. Second, SSAC's mani's are NOT known for their quality. Third, the turbos they sell are totally hit or miss, and I don't know if I've EVER heard a good report on one. As someone above said, the only good thing they sell is their 2G FMIC kits.

Being that you run such a highly modified truck and are around quality parts you should know the saying "you get what you pay for." I personally haven't purchased anything from them but there are to many bad things being said about them for me to gamble because of a seemingly good price or deal. Good luck and welcome, you and your son, to DSM's. :thumb:

I'm a little confused about the turbo size. It has a 2.25" inlet and a 2.5" outlet, but the compressor housing A/R is only a .42 and the hot side is a .48, if I'm not mistaken those housing aren't much bigger than whats on a T25 and why is the hot side bigger than the cold side?? I don't know what a "stage III" wheel is, but in one place it says its a T3 and then in another it says its a T3/T4... which is it, it will make a big difference in the size. Might be nice to know the wheel trim too. As for the physical size (which will at least give you a ballpark), judging by its size in relation to the Tial knock off BOV, its probably 20G sized. But those housing A/Rs make it sound much smaller...

As far as SSautochrome in general, their stuff seems to be hit or miss. If you get a good part, you got a good part. If not, it will fail quickly and catastrophically. My friends tired some different SSautochrome wastegates, 3 of the 4 failed within a week, the other one is still running strong 9 months later. They also just put an SSac 57trim T04E on a Civic so we'll see how that does. And yes, I also had a friend that ran one of their manifolds without a problem. I also run an XS/SSAC O2 housing with no problems. I would never buy anything with moving parts from them or anything thats under significant stress while in use.

You get what you pay for. You could get lucky like some people have, but that stuff is made by 3 year olds working in Chinese sweat shops. They don't know much about turbos or how to correctly assemble things.

Well in a way i wish my son waited on buying something so i could have took a better look at it but hes 20! I can certianly agree that you get what you pay for! As far as i can see the major thing i have to do is change the wastegate flange off the header because the wastegate hits the powersteering pump, i figure i can weld the flange on an angle therfore missing the steering pump.

As of now i really dont plan on putting a manual boost gauge on the car, so im wondering if the wastegate would be set at a safe boost level for the car? Ive emailed SSauto a few times now and have got nothing back in two weeks so i guess i wont be getting any info from them.

If someone could tell me what they think the boost will be that would be great.

Thanks again
Doug
P.S. if anyone wants to check my pulling truck heres a link :)

SSautchrome as stated earlier is hit and miss. Some people get good turbos like myself, others get crappy ones. I have a Big Evo III 16g Ported I bought from them. It runs great. It was a real Mitsubishi MHI Turbo. I haven't had any boost creep issues and I have been running on it over a year now. Not everyone has lucked out on the turbo as I did though. Yes there customer service absolutely sucks, you will never hear from them unless you are complimenting them. If you have any quality questions or issues, you will never hear from them and they don't have a phone number listed anywhere. So as stated, hit or miss.

Someone on here did a report on ssautochrome, xspower same company....his turbo kit he bought worked out perfectly fine, at least his lag was bad over 4000 but since he tuned it dropped into the mid or low 3's.....you get what you pay for but there is always a deal somewhere. His turbo didnt crap after anytthing and he dogged the shit out of his car TRYING to break something. The mani broke a bracket support and thats it no crack anywhere and his mani is heat wrapped.

ther is the link to the fourm on this website. He did a complete review on there products.

I've installed numerous SSAC manifolds, all on 4G63's, and they were crap. Total junk that broke and had to be rewelded several times, before finally being scrapped.

I did one SSAC turbo kit install, it was on a '00 Acura Integra. The manifold also broke, we rewelded it once and he ordered a custom-log manifold. No problems since...

Personally, I just ordered a SSAC FMIC kit for my Eclipse, and I am nothing but pleased...
