Ok, I have a 1996 eclipse rs, i am wanting to get the "most bang for my buck". was thinking about turboing my car, but needing to know what the pro's and con's of it would be. I was wondering if I could turbo a stock n/t eclipse....or rather more if it would be worth it. if so what will i need? The other thought was would it be smarter to just buy a gst motor and use that. I AM A NEWB, and do not know much on this subject. i have $1300 to start out with, and would like to make my car as fast as possible with that money(yet still keep it as close to one peice as I can). Any pointers on what to do, suggestions saying yay or ney, and/or other things i could do to make it fast......Thanks

ok, what would i search for? any suggestions on wether to go or not to go with the turbo on a n/t car?

your car has the 420A correct? really is not worth it. if you have 1300 already sell your car, or save up some more money and pick up a gs-t/tsi or gsx/tsi awd.

What ^ ? Why sell it he can do a motor swap, or build the 420... i seen a built 420 yesterday as a matter of fact... but i guess it is up to you

Grim: I love your thinking a lot more, I am not getting rid of this car, it looks kick ass, has a widebody kit, wing and rims that I like, i was thinking about building it up, but not sure where to start...I would like to get it as fast as safely possible, yet not fry the motor. Or was thinking about doing the motor swap for a gst motor if that would be the better direction. that is what i'm wanting, told by an expert(or someone that has done this) what my options are, and which is better. Whe3l, not to get on your bad side or anyone else's but i'm not gettin rid of the car, just wanting some good legit and knowledgible advice on what to do.

Straight from RRE's web site

"'95-'99 Turbo Kit for the Non-Turbo

We don't have one. First, you should have bought the turbo Eclipse in the first place if you want to go that fast. Second, for about the price of a good turbo kit and the installation you can sell your car, take the money and another $2,000 or $3,000 and go buy a GS-T. Third, you have a Dodge Neon motor in your car and it has nothing in common with the Mitsubishi 4G63 motor. Send Me Hate Mail

Now with that said, you love your car and you love your low NT insurance rates and you have $2,400 to $3,500 burning a big hole in your pocket. You must have a turbo NOW. Check out these guys that sell kits for you.

As far as what to search for mybe try "420A TURBO"

You will be fine installing a turbo kit onto your 420a and taking it up to around 8 PSI. My 420a has been boosted for about 2 years w/ a completly stock engine. It will most likely cost you more then your $1300 though. You just have to go into it knowing this limitation unless you get more money and rebuild it w/ forged internals.

Hmmm, I thought there were rules against telling people to sell a NT and buy a turbo guys. :nono:

To the OP, you've got a good amount of starting money to build a simple turbo setup with, start reading and learning everything you can.
