My car is mostly stock, 3" exhaust, test pipe, boost gauge/controller, plug/wires/k&n. Also a datalogger, hacked air can, and rewired fuel pump. just had the long block rebuilt with balance shaft eliminator, 4 layer head gasket, arp head studs, and 3g lifters. motor is broken in with 1300 miles with no issues, was pullin hard runnin around 15 pounds. All of a sudden I have NO power with full boost and fast spool. Thought I got some bad gas, filled it up with 93 from 1/4 with octane booster. Added oil stabilizer, changed plugs and wires. Reset base timing to 5 degrees. without ground on the ignition clip it runs between 10-15 degrees at idle. Tested pump voltage, fixed one minor boost leak and minor exhaust leak on the downpipe, compression test was at 140 all cylinders and 160-170 wet. swapped the ecu with a friends talon and same issue. Replaced the fuel filter and knock sensor during motor swap but I wrapped on some teflon and retourqued it. I have been running open wastegate for a few days and still get around 20 counts of knock at 1/4 throttle. 43 counts with the wastegate closed. o2 sensor was new last year but will replace soon anyway. o2 readings look consistent with previous pulls but they do jump all over. have no way to check fuel pressure but I will buy a gauge as well. I cannot actually hear any knock and there are no loose brackets or pulleys anywhere. PLEASE help!

forgot to mention checked tps and the t belt hasnt skipped a tooth. still running open wastegate with no other issues. anyone have issues with the in tank fuel strainer? my timing is wacked runs like 20-30 on logger just cruising and light throttle and when it knocks its just in high spikes usually but its always doggin even when its not knocking. please any ideas will be much appreciated.

Since everything else checks out fine, it sounds like you have some bad phantom knock. Do you have some lifter tick, or any noise that the ecu could mistake for knock? I have some pretty bad lifter tick and I get crazy knock just cruising around. The ecu is probably pulling quite a bit of timing everywhere, which would explain the lack of power. If the ecu sees a lot of knock, it retards timing for the long term to prevent engine damage (say if you had a bad tank of gas). Since I tune with Ostrich/Tunerpro, I get around this by updating the octane value to max every time I start the car (full timing). I also have my boost gauge set up as a knock gauge, and every time I see knock (or feel it), I let off immediately and most of the time it stops phantom knocking. If you can go WOT without knock, I'd say your knock isn't real, since at light cruise cylinder pressures are the lowest and knock is least likely.

Hi,

I would check fuel pressure. If that checks out then put some high octane gas in the tank and see if you still get any knock counts. Also check to see if the knock sensor is leaking.

just bought a jeep for the winter so I can take this bxxch off the road. Still runnin open wastegate with no change in performance. Will install new fuel pump and regulator asap and see what happens. Other than that I am still clueless... thanks for the ideas anything else I should check??
