New gameshow, It's called Name That Noise!!

Ok, bought this car and put a ton of work into it. It seems to be close to the timing side. Before you watch the vid heres what Ive done to attempt to cure the noise.---New rod bearings, new timing belt pulleys, eliminated balance shafts, and the replaced lifters. kinda sounds like maybe the timing belt or another belt is hitting the side engine cover.

Kinda, like the timing cover is rubbing something.

you might have the timing belt too tight,it will whine like no other if its too tight.

Well, when I get a chance I'll take off the timing cover and start the car without it.

Timing belt tentioner bearings???

I've had that sound before after my rebuild, it turned out to be the timing belt hydraulic tensioner. The tensioner arm vibrating against the tensioner due to bad tensioner. I used a stepthiscope (sp) and located the sound. It was really loud when I listened the top motor mount bracket on the block, at first I thought rod knock. Then I took all the belts of and the sound was still there, so I then took timing cover off and listened to the tensioner arm and it about blew my ear drum. I hope this is your problem.

I'm going to agree with wb12859. Sounds like an improperly torqued timing belt or a failed hydraulic tensioner. Check it out.

Ok, well I took the cover off and still had the noise. The timing tensioner pulleys are new. I'll take off the belt and put a different tensioner on in a couple of days and post back. Thanks for the replies.

it might be the new lifters maybe they jus need to be adjusted

Did you ever figure out what your problem was? I have had the same problem with my rebuilt engine also.
