New fidanza and 6 puck, now having noise and vibration

Hi the reason for this is the lightweight flywheel. Because of the reduced weight there is a trade off of having reduced dampening abilities.
I don't buy it. If that were true then EVERY lightweight flywheel would have the same problem. FORMONTOYA just said he has no problem after having his clutch and flywheel balanced together. I believe it IS a balance issue not a dampening issue.

that could be the issue it sounds good but is that the case ?? the s2000 i did had a stock flywheel and had this same issue.
did the s2000 use a solid hub disc? the solid hub transfers torsional vibration from the engine too the trans. this is why you only hear it upon deceleration this is when the gears are unloaded. Gear whine is acceptable check around at other clutch companys like Daikin Clutch usa Or Exedy (same thing) they also warn of noise when using solid hub disc's. the combination of a lightweight flywheel and solid hub disc exagerates this "problem" but really is it a problem?

yes the s2000 had a 6 puck solid hub disc .....
It does make sense that the disc is the problem but i have done many hondas with solid hubs that do not this .... Maybe it is because the honda engines are reverse rotation?

ok back from the dead ....

I have a up date i swapped out my pucked disc for a act street dick and all the noise and vibrations are gone.
just thought i would let some people know ... hope it helps someone.

Just for info.... recently fitted a new fidanza ally flywheel and Spec stage2 kevlar clutch to my 4g63 Evo2 here in the UK....couldnt believe the noise it made on coast down and high load :(and thought i had done something wrong, at this time i hadnt balanced clutch fly assembly so put it down to this or my newly rebuilt tranny....drove it for 1500 miles and no change....so engine needed to come out due to crankwalk :(...sent tranny back for strip and inspection which turned up nothing.... got new crank and had complete bottom end balanced inc flywheel and clutch...reassembled and noise is just the same...so it seems it must be the clutch!... i can live with it but will be looking at going twin plate once this stroker engine is run in so will hopefully cure it, not very happy about it though, but please im not the only one after reading on here.

yes the solid hub clutch will cause noise in coast down . when i swapped my clutch back to a sprung disc it stopped.

Ok but the Spec stage2 clutch i have has a sprung plate and is full face which i was hoping would mean it was quiet...seems not though :(..... i guess the springs must be mega strong which makes it more solid disc like in operation ?

Have the members experinecing the "noise" noticed any adverse effects other than the sound?

I too have the unnerving "titanium mouse trying to get out of the visceral intestines of an recently deceased iron cat" type of sound upon deceleration... you guessed it, just installed Al flywheel.

I can stomach the noise as long as I can convince myself that it is not causing harm.

Long term first hand reports appreciated.

Recently swapped over from an ACT streetlite clutch & flywheel to a Fidanza 3.2 4-puck kevlar (sprung) clutch with their Al flywheel (8lbs). Had the pressure plate and flywheel assembly balanced at a local (very reputable) machine shop.

Some of the descriptions of the vibration/noise created on decel while in gear between 3500-4000 RPMs are very accurate from what is now going on. So has anyone found out if it's the lightweight AL flywheel? or the Puck clutch?

Flywheel, if the clutch is enaged fully, I don't see why it would be the issue. I noticed when I got my 17" wheels it reduced it some, probably because the wheels are heavier. I also only have the ACT street flywheel which is still pretty heavy at around 12 pounds or so...

I'm suffering the same but I also hear a vibration under the car towards the rear end, like something loose (maybe driveshaft bearings shot).

My setup is an engine with NO Balance shafts, stock flywheen but lightened (Just like RRE does show on his site), 6 puck sprung XTD clutch disk, Competition Clutch pressure plate.

The sound really scares me. I also notticed a slight vibration on the shifter in 3th and 4th gear.

Any 4 or 6 puck clutch disk whether it's solid or sprung is going to produce extra chatter and noise.

ACT even states it on their website.

Most of the chatter problems are balance related, but the lightweight flywheel causes the noise & vibration to be more pronounced because of the lack of weight/dampening on the flywheel.

I personally stick with the performance street disc on daily driven cars :)

What exactly chatter means? Sorry I'm from Spain and I don't know that word.Is like when you release the clutch slowly the car pulls like in impulses and the engine shakes back and forth?
That happens to me If I try to start moving at rpms lower than 2000.

I brought the crankshaft and flywheen to balance but not the pressure plate.

Could a pressure plate produce those vibrations?

I wantred to put a carbon/keblar disk but I was afraid It would slip.
I'm planning to run around 350HP so I wasn't shure if a street disk would hold the power.
Not going to do hard launches at all, the car is a Daily driven.

Today I replaced the driveshaft bearings and rubber bushings. IT helped a lot on the low frequency vibration but there's still a nbit of it and noise like a loose panel or something. At deceleration and slight throtle.

I also suffer from this problem after installing an ACT flywheel and Stage II Competition Clutch(sprung full disc). Should I just learn to live with the noise and accept it as a trade off for a lighter flywheel? I hate it and it drives me crazy....and it's only been 100 miles since install :(

I just replaced the lightened (turned) stock flywheel, xtd disk and competition clutch pressure plate to a stock flywheel and an ACT 2600 disk and PP.
The noise and vibration disappeared completelly.
I checked the turned flywheel and I realized it was turned wrong, but maybe the problem was the Comp clutch PP as You have the same one I had and are suffering from the same simptoms. It could be that They don't balance the PP at all?

I know this is an old thread, but I'm sure it might help someone who may have not seen this. I've driven without balance shafts in almost all of my motors, but last time I was at the track, I had lockout issues near the end of the track with my QM clutch. So think I'll be putting them back in, and might help with shifting, etc. Might help you guys with your vibration issues though. Maybe.

There's also the possibility the QM clutch has mushroomed your syncros and/or worn/broken the syncro springs.

You could be right, but doubting it. At the time, the clutch was fairly new (well, it's still in new condition, but it's been in the car awhile without much drive time) and I had the transmission apart to put in my welded diff and everything looked pretty good not long before race day. Like maybe a week prior.
