hello everyone, i just bought my first DSM a few days ago "91 eclipse gsx 5spd 113,xxx mi" mods are full turbo back exhaust system no catt, test pipe back ebay crap, some modification done to the intake, ie silencer removed, the upper O2 senser was moved to the downpipe due to lack of room with the radiator, has a turbo timer installed and an air/fuel ratio gauge installed (flashes 7.4). fog light relay removed due to bad toggle and he wanted to be able to put the head lights half down while driving. <--legit? and duel piston calipers from a 94? with drilled/slotted brakes, also all maintaince done including the timing belt about 2k mi ago, belt looks great.

OK so heres my issue, he told me that because of the intake mods and the exhaust that the air/fule ratio was off, gauge flashes 7.4 but idk what that means, so when geting on it hard it would hit fuel cut and a 255 lph pump would fix that, also that he could sell me his evo 550cc injectors for $100. sound right? will the fuel pump and injectors fix this or is it something else? will this be overkill or good planning for later? my goal is 400hp to the wheels but its gonna be a slow learning process. i just dont wanna buy these parts then go from lien to rich LOL or vise versa??
btw ive gone thru the upgrade pathss and im gonna get the parts this guy skipped ie boost gauge, boost controller, etc. this car was the most stock i could find so its the best i can do LOL also another quick qustion, will the evo injectors (unkown year) fit my fuel rail or will i need one?

thanks for looking/helping.

yes the injectors will fit. and 400whp are way out of your reach ATM. first thing i would get is a boost gauge because you need to know how much your boosting. and if the air/fuel ratio meter is not a wide band its basically useless. its not going to give you accurate enough information to be helpful. as for the fuel cutting you need to get a boost gauge and see how much the car is boosting. 1gs hit "Fuel Cut" at around 14-17 PSI so if your boosting that much that could be your problem right there. and if you dont have a "T" or a boost controller then you might be running open boost

the 255 with out a external fuel pressure regulator will do you more harm then good. also do some shopping around and some research before you just buy stuff, or you will end up with all kinds of extra parts laying around that are pointless. the boost guage and controller are a great start. if your air/fuel guage is one of those neat light shows take that turd out and throw it in the trash and get a wideband, if its a wideband then your good to go.

im not sure if its wide band, ill do some research but its just a digital display, my buddy had one on his crx with the ten or so colored leds LOL i know what you mean, my 400whp goal is a long way off i know but thats my goal notheless, im not a rich man but im doin alright LOL im going to get the boost gauge and manual controller first for sure, but should i also get an hard tube intake or will that just make it worse? or is it up in the air until i know the boost pressure..? at any rate what would you guys recommend for the gauge and controller? not too exspenive yet will be useful with more power later on? if i get solid opinons along with my searching soon ill be able to buy today.

thx for the warning aboult the fuel pump btw.

the gauge and controller really are kinda up to you and how much you wanna spend, personally i don't like the electronic controllers i think they are over priced and from what i read aren't very reliable but i could be wrong on that. the hard intake tube you could buy it if you want but there are other things at the point you could spend money on insted of wasting it on that. here you go you can check this place out Forced Performance Turbochargers: Diamond Star for some of your parts research anyways.

ok thanks, I'm most likely going to get the gauge and controller today and when I stumble through my install, I'll let you guys know my findings.. LOL

there are allot of manual boost controllers out there that are good but there are also allot that are garbage. stay away from the cheap $20 eBay boost controllers they are all terrible. trust me i know from experience. hall-man is a good boost controller brand also turbo XS is another good one. dont bother with the intake pipe atm because if your running the stock 1g maf it will get upgraded pretty quick, eventually you will want to upgrade to a 2g maf or a GM maf with translator. they are bulky and not the best out there. as far as your HP goals its definitively a good goal and we all started somewhere. also the Walbro 255HP is good for about 450HP on E85 and the Fuel pressure regulator is also something that will last you a while.

ok thanks wilder, i checked on the air/fuel ratio gauge and its an innovative motorsports "db" wideband. so i think ill keep it LOL its reading 7.4, what is it supposed to read? 14.7? 15? thats what the website pics were showing.

ok so i found on the taboo EBAY, a mech autometer Phantom vac/boost gauge for about $40. anyone have any expierence with these? ive looked around and autometer seems to be the best bang for my buck, also saw that it sits about 2/3 lbs below Zero unplugged. is that normal?

im still doing research but from what ive found so far, with my "lein" set up, if i got the 255lph pump and 550cc+ injectors i could just switch to E85 gas which is on the way to my work.. theres been a lot of back and forth from what ive read so far but most people say you just need a bigger pump and injectors, not an actual "kit". of course i wont be buying anything major for awhile or at least not installing it untill i know for sure. im just looking for opinions while i search fro now.

ok so i installed my new autometer boost gauge, after a few quick runs its maxing at 13psi with 20hg at idle. from what ive gathered, this is fairly normal. though my air/fuel mixre still seems off. but the pump, afpr, and injectors are a little bit out of my $$$ range at the moment so im gonna have to buy them one at a time and shelf them until i get all 3.

as for the boost gauge readings, would you suggest a more through leak test? or is this peachy?
