with this being the first performance car i've own or been behind the wheel of, i have some basic questions some of which are quite beginner-esk. first is idle just when you let the car sit there running? is driving around 80-100 really pushing a stock 4g63 hard, or can i do that often and still be okay? if the t25 spools uo ~3k rmp, what would be considered bad turbo lag, or is 3k pretty slow compared to upgraded turbos? also are turbo engines more capible of harder driving than n/a or should they be more passive, i talking about stock and/or before a lot of supporting mods are made? wheh... is that it!

1. No, 80-100 is not going to kill your motor as long as you keep it taken care of.

2. ~3K is pretty good for a turbo. Your larger turbos like the 20G are going to spool between 3700-4400 depending on several things. It really goes up from there as far as lag. Some claim that BB turbos reduce lag dramatically but I do not have experience with them. From what I have seen with most (not all) BB turbos the cost does not outweigh the gain.

3. 4G63 motors stock are made to handle more abuse than a 420a stock. BUT the 420a can be built up to handle hard driving conditions as well. Stock internals on a 420a are not made for super high hp applications but the motor can be upgraded to handle higher hp applications. The stock 4G63 is able to handle ~400+hp on stock internals but this is with GOOD tuning. After that you would want to look into upgrading the internals as well.

Your motor is going to last you if you take care of it. Regular oil changes and tune ups are highly recommended. Also listen to your car and it will let you know when something is too much for it to handle. Finally I don't recommend running nitrous oxide on a 2G dsm with stock internals. The small rods are really not meant for it and you can possibly tear up your motor with running nitrous. I'm not sure about 1G applications but I do know the rods are bigger on 1Gs and they can handle a little more power stock.

1. idle is when you have no power to the wheels - ie in neutral or with clutch fully depressed.

2. As far as driving 80-100 - first things first - DO NOT DRIVE LIKE AN IDIOT - we don't like to hear about people dying from this. And on to the question - as long as you keep your eye on the gauges (mainly temp) this should be fine but you need to rememeber to leave ample time for the turbo to cool done once you've been running this hot. You do not want your turbo to crack.

3. your t25 should start to spool up before 3k, but no, your t25 has almost no turbo lag, and never will have any. For example - real turbo lag is like at 5 or 6k.

4. I'm not quite sure what your last question is, but I will tell you this. Hard driving is hard on your car. Cornering hard is hard on your engine. Accelerating through 7k is hard on your engine. It doesn't matter what kind of car you have - driving the car for extended periods with those sort of habits WILL wear on your car.

thanx guys for tha tinfo hook up, let me clarify. with regular oil changes and tune ups, hard driving won't be a problem as long as its not to frequent and supporting mods will help the motor last longer. another question, is there any mod thats actually going to ad gas mileage, or do most power mods usually just decrease your mpg?

I'm putting out about 350hp to the wheels on pump gas and I still have great gas mileage. It's all about tuning.

When you say great gas milage , how good are you getting?

I want to say over 20mpg but honestly I really have not sat down and figured it up. Full tank of gas lasts me quite a while. Once I get the new clutch in it I'll run it and try to figure out how much I'm getting.
