i have an aftermarket cd player that im wanting to install the install part is easy but i called the local stereo shop to get a harness and they said with the infinity system im going to have to rewire all my speakers so that it works properly and also take out my factory amp because otherwise ill be running an amped signal to the amp and it will blow the head unit.. i think there bs'n me so i buy a whole system from them and have them do the labor.. is it that complicated or can i just hook my new cd player up and connect the wiring harness like every other car ive dealt with??

I don't know about the stock amplifiers on 2g's, but you usually Do have to bypass the factory amps to install an aftermarket cd player on alot of vehicles. I've seen harness out there that will simply keep the stock amps from powering on.

there is an adapter that will convert the low level (RCA) outs on your new head to the input of the factory amp...

but if you ever replace the front speakers you are going to need to ditch the amp anyway...

why don't they just build you a passive x-over for the factory speakers, (6ohm mid 12 ohm tweet) and do the amp bypass as I indicated in the tech articles? Speaker colors are there... install it yourself and save 40 bucks... its easy.

If you buy the new unit from Crutchfield, they throw in the install kit and wiring harnesses for free- WITH instructions. So easy, anybody can do it. :thumb:

except that they don't (and can't) provide a way for the factory tweeters to remain playing on a 97 up...

all you need is a screwdriver (phillips #@2)

crimps and crimping tool

a mitsu harness and possibly a pocket ($20)

2 small xover (maybe $20 bought)

knowhow

and you can install the system using all 6 speakers and all the radios power WHILE protecting your tweeters...

can i just hook my new cd player up and connect the wiring harness like every other car ive dealt with??

to answer your question: yes

would this be the correct way to go about things?: no

your local stereo shop is right about bypassing your stock amp. granted ive known some people to not bypass it and get away with it, but its jsut not the right way to do it.

theres a couple ways you could go about doing this ther proper way:

a) re-wire everything: meaning, to re-run wires right from the back of your cd player directly to there respective speakers. this obviously being the longer more unnesissary route, but in many cases, could prove to be beneficial. (<-- IF you plan to amp any speakers later on down the road)

b) find a wiring diagram for your specific vehicle model. unplug everything from stock infinity amp connect each speakers "input" wires to its "output" wires (<--hence needing the diagram, or using a test light to find out yourself) this will do the same thing as option A, but the wires are already run,. and sometimes its a pain in the @$$ to find the right wiring diagram/find which wires are in/out, pos/neg etc...

or try c) defrag010's idea, cutting power off to the stock infinity amp. i havent ever tried this myself though, and really dont know if it will work out how you would asume it should.

yea.. like i said, i dunno either about the infinity amps in the eclipse. but i had an infinity system in my dodge truck, and when the amp wasnt getting power, the signal would go straight through the amp to the speakers.
