Hey guys,

I am planning to upgrade a few things soon enough, I do have cat-back now however it came with the car and I can't define the true brand of it, and the pipings not looking good now. So I plan to go with a 2.5-3" full turbo-back soon enough since I am doing fuel and turbo upgrades soon.

So I kind of had the Tanabe SMR in mind. It looks like a great exhaust, however I really don't go for tips like that. I do like some, but I don't think that one will flow good (IMO), so I was wondering if I should just get a new muffler, or almost stock. Or if someone else had any other exhausts in mind? I was also thinking a thermal. By the way you can see I have a 97 GS-T. I don't plan to do too many mods so 2.5" or bigger will do just fine. I also need a good coating so it doesn't end up rusting. I also plan to put a race-cat on it. Well throw up suggestions. Thanks.

VRS has some exhausts you might like, not too expensive considering what you get. Also, if you dont want it to rust you may want to consider getting either stainless steel (more expensive) or alumized with some coating on it (less expensive). As far as coatings go you might want to check out POR-15, I think they may have something that could help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the thermal necks down to stock diameter to connect to the stock cat. since you want a full turboback you might want to keep that in mind.

The Thermal necks down to 2.375" O.D. If your running a 2.5" downpipe/testpipe, no sweat, fits beautifully. Obviously, a 3" downpipe will require cutting the offending neckdown off for fitment purposes, no biggie. Better to have a neckdown here than in the muffler where you can't get at it, thats the reason I bought the Thermal in the first place. It all good :thumb:

When you say full turbo back you mean a 2.5-3in 02 housing too right? Most people when they say turboback really mean just the downpipe and the catback they usually leave out the 02 when they talk about turboback. A full 3in exhaust is the majority here. People making 500hp have 3in exhaust.

I have experience with both the N1 and Thermal exhaust systems so I would recommend either of these.
Now if you want a system that will hold up:
RRE Downpipe with Highflow cat.
If you like the Apexi N1, let RRE know and it will come with the flanges perfect for it.
If you like the Thermal, you can cut the neck down portion off and reflange it. Most any muffler shop will do it for you.

I've had my N1, RRE downpipe and Highflow cat for 2yrs now. It still looks new even with 2 winters with salt and snow.

My friend has the same setup except with the Thermal. Still looks great also.

I hope this helps a little
Good luck

I've ahd my Apexi Dunk 115 (not as loud as the N1 but full 3") for about 5-6 years now. About to finally do the RRE 3"downpipe and 3" cat to mate up to it.

A 3" is not to loud as long as it has 1-2 resonators in it and just a cat back will rpobably do you in a 3". If you ever decide your goals have changed you won't be trying to unload a used 2.5 for pennies on the dollar to buy a 3"!
