Need some help for power steering

Ok so I have a power steering leak somewhere in the car but I don't know where yet... I am looking for best case and worst case scenerios and what prices I am looking to pay to get this fixed...

I think its a either leaky lines or the reservior or the pump... It leaks so much that it runs out of fluid in about 20 mins and the AWD light turns on. But... I do know there is fluid everywhere which means it means that the leak is probably comming from top down since fluid drips down...

Just a thought... any common known leaks in the Power Steering in the 3kGTs?

I know this isnt a 3000GT board... but their board is not very helpful so I turn to my other brethren. and BTW: some garage said that it might cost me up to 4500 dollars and I just cant see it..

4500 sound's wack.(for one thing).

I would follow all the lines and clean them, then put fluid to the res and have a a buddy start the car and turn the wheel, and look for any leaks or were it comes from. I know a 3000gt is a cramped engine bay but it cant hurt to at least try and find the leak yourself.(esp at that cost).

how would a power-steering concern make the AWD light come on in a FWD car??? That seems more like an electrical issue with the ECU.

before you open you mouth you should atleast read my thread.... Yes I am talking about My 3000GT VR4 not my eclipse... So thus it can have a AWD light come on... and addition to that Power steering can affect a 3000GT VR4 AWD system because the 3000GT VR4 comes with all wheel steering.


Yeah I figured I would have to do that... any guesses though? And thanks for your input talon...

After you get it cleaned up, check the lines that bolt right to the resivoir, see if the leak is coming from there. If not it is going to be any place that the lines screw together, or a hole in the line. Best you can do is clean it and check all connections and hoses. Sorry it is not too much help, but I dont have a 3000gt(yet).

Oh. And I have never seen an AWD light in My front wheel drive.

worst case scenerio you would have to replace everything p/s pump, hoses , and rack
but if i had to take a guess i would have to say it is one of p/s hoses or the p/s hose isnt tight not screwed in all the way, (since the fluid looks like its coming from up top and dripping down) so again clean off all the fluid fill the resevoir back up have someone start the car up and turn the wheel back and forth or hold it all the way to one side and check it . trust me if it is leaking that fast you will find it. WTF 4500 that is ludicris tell that guy to suck your and do it yourself save your self some money! good luck

worse case every thing went bad. i would check your hoses first then your pump hoses you can fix if it is the pump it should be replaced hard to tell what it may be in till you look for the leak and see where it is coming from

most likely one of the rubber hoses, just replace them all and see if it still leaks, make sure your metal sealer thingys are all good and intack as well, i took mine off, (the metal things) because i knew i was going to replace the power steering cooler (left the rubber lines on) and the next day there was a puddle under my car that leaked because of that... the car isnt running right now, so its not that the system was under pressure either, its just it will leak if you dont have the metal seals...
