So I've been looking over your forum, and I am already afraid of what kind of answers I might get:)...

My wife has a '95 GS, 2.0NA w/ 4spd AT, and the trans makes a rattling noise under load, and shifts like crap under heavy throttle. It surges and lurches, and I think is in general ready for 5 gallons of gas and a road flare.

The rest of the car is great, leakdown, suspension, all stock and going to stay that way.

Basically, I'm a professional Porsche mechanic with no need for a weekend project. I don't need a transmission that can withstand a nuclear explosion either, or one that cost $3000.00. But I do want a good rebuilt or low(LOW) mile stock replacement gearbox.

My main concern is that my wife doesn't end up standing on the side of the road with a puddle of metal and sludge under the car. And I don't want some transmission supercenter Xeroxing out a piece of crap, or some gas station clown molesting my wife's car.

So I figured the best place to find out the right thing to do was to come here and ask the pundits;)

Seriously, you guys are enthusiasts who should know where to get reasonably priced quality, so I'm trusting you on this one!

OK then...I was hoping for some help on this one...

FWIW, I changed the ATF and filter, and it shifts OK now, but I still ave a rattling noies under load...Any guesses?

If it shifts fine and doesn't flare up at all, the fluid isn't burnt, and no metal shavings were found in the pan/oil, then your tranny is most likely in good health. It could very well just be the engine missing out. As for the rattling, have you checked all your mounts? Just an idea, and try to find the general area the rattling is coming from and just keep narrowing it down. Welcome to the wonderful world of owning a DSM :nono:
