So I finally got my car 100% done and I took it out on the road yesterday. I put a good 60 miles on it just driving around the area to start the break in on the motor. The whole time I'm driving, the car is running great, no problems at all. Well, I was dropping my friend off at if house when I stopped at a red light and the idle started to go from 900rpm to around 1500-2000 rpm. After a few seconds it dropped back down to 900rpm and the light turned green. When I stepped on the gas, it sounded like a stick car with a person riding the clutch. It slowly started moving then it when to neutral while I was in drive. So I put it in park and turned the car off. I turned the car back on and put it in drive and drove off. It started to do it more and more when I got to my friends house. By the time I got to my friends house I had no reverse and no drive. I check the trans fluid and saw it was really low. I got trans fluid and put about 3 quarts in it. Then it was fine. I started to drive away and the problem came back. The thing is, everytime I shut the car off for about a minute and turn it back on, it works fine for a couple more minutes until the problem comes back. Now since this has happened, i got an idle surge.
This car before the problem started, was driving and shifting perfect.
The mods on the trans is a IPT converter, shift kit, Ipt end clutches and a IPT trans cooler, its a decent sized one. Only thing I dont have is an trans temp gauge.(I know, I need one).
I about to go pick up my car in alittle bit from my friends house to see if its ok. Hopefully the trans just was hot and needed to cool off.
What do you guys think is the problem?
*update* i checked the trans fluid when i got to my friends house and the fluid was good and a nice color red.
i tried to drive it from my friends house and within 5 minutes, the car started to act up again. the coolant light came on also. when i checked the coolant, it was fine.
