Need EVERYONES opinion!!

So please ready this whole thread and let me know what you think. So i've been building cars for five years. I usually buy a car build it keep it for a year or so then get bored with it and sell it for a new one. But then I bought my dream car, a car I've always wanted and was most pashinit about, my 1g talon. I have had this car for the longest, two years. Now I'm stuck in the middle of a disision. My first goal with this is slowly build it, first buy bigger turbo, then build up fuel system to fit that need and other mods, and push 500hp then build the bottom end with the head. But now I've been thinkin should I just say ####it leave the car on the stands for a whole year and just build it up and do it right or should I take it step by step and do things on the way?

If I was doing my car over I would put on the stands and do it right..then punish her for being on the stands.

here is my idea, buy a bare block or a engine that needs some work for dirt cheap build it with OEM or whatever and when your ready swap them out, in the meantime do bolt on upgrades to the old engine in it as you drive, and then swap your bolt on's to the new engine. then if failure occurs you have a engine to fall back on.

It really depends on if you drive the car everyday. Me personally I like to go step by step. That way you see see what power is made by what part, and knowing that the money was well spent.

My car was on stands for a year and a half, while I collected money to but parts but it was well worth it!

I dont drive it every day, it is my summer car, my baby I only bring it out on the nice days or when a guy is being to cocky for his own good

To me, step by step is better because you go along with the growth of the car. That sounds like some deep soul shit, but it's awesome to drive your car at 300awhp, then drive it again at 350awhp. Just feeling the increase is awesome. You feel great afterwards.

Of course, if you park it,you'll do everything right there and then, and everything will be new and fresh when you go to drive, but then again. The whole learning experience and knowledge with DSMs come from slow steps up. I know you're experienced with cars, but DSMs are special. haha. It's better to have things break along the way and learn from them.

All in all, think of it this way, it's like watching your baby girl (real kid) start crawling, then walking, then running, etc..

Build from bottom end-up. The turbo is the last thing you should buy. Get all your supporting mods in line and then once your block head fuel and tuning is in check, go for whatever monster turbo fits your needs!

I like what the other guy said about buying a block and building it while you can still drive your car.. But I would always build start from the bottom up. I like to start off with the best rods rods and pistons you can get..(for your money)

it's alot more fun in the end to have it all done at once. However the extra block idea is idea but, can be expensive looking for new engines to work on from what i've seen. Really it's your call. Probably a good idea to buy and hold onto all the parts until your ready to install them all.

This is basically exactly where I was sitting 6 months ago (except I dont have my dream car yet (1ga talon)).
I started with the car barely running, got it up running, added small mods, a fuel pump, cams, springs, 3g lifters, e316g, FMIC, and other little things, all while I have another block on the side that I am building up slowely making sure I get the good parts, and take my time putting it together.

My plans did catch a big snag last month when i blew my motor. It was a sad time for a few days, until I found a new 6 bolt motor, and got it in and running in 3 days!

Needless to say, the plans are still on for the built 6 bolt, all is going well with that. Make sure all the supporting mods are done, then throw my forged block in with a built head, an HX40, pump some serious fuel to it and GO FAST!

Im trying to enjoy best of both worlds, Im building the motor like the car is on stands, while daily driving it with the e316g. Which is no slouch BTW!
