As many of you know, my crankshaft decided to throw a bearing and ruin my babied engine. However, it turns out that this is one of the better things to happen to me in recent months. This unfortunate incident has allowed me to finally get modifications done to my car that otherwise would be impossible. I know many people have no respect for the N/T's because they are so freaking slow. This car will still be slow, but an improvement, and hopefully a little better on the AutoX courses & MAM road course with some added ponies. All of these parts have been purchased, and are on the way to my address as we speak.

I'm sorry if you think i'm just like rubing this in your face, but spending this much money upgrading a N/T is slightly unheard of in this community. Many people think it is a waste of money and I should've gone turbo. Hopefully this can inspire some of the dweary N/T souls out there into modding their cars for decent gains. I am shooting for a 30-40WHP boost in power. I will have dyno sheets to prove any gains for this setup to help this community out!

Hope to have pics to you within a couple weeks!

Well i have a 2gnt and in the past 2 months i purchased
17in lightweight wheels,.40 forged pistons,eagle rods,crank,balanced motor,p&p and shaved head,new brakesystem,kyb shocks,stage 1 clutch,all filters ,thermastat,oil pump,water pump,afx/r ecu,and gauges. So i spent some cash on a non-Turbo too but i beleive it was worth it .

Sweet! :thumb: Glad to see that there are other crazy SOB's like myself out there. Only thing I would check on are the plugs you plan on putting in. I've heard horror stories about the Bosch's, go NGK. Can't go wrong. I am even considering the new NGK iridium. Just waiting to hear from someone else if they had good response from them or not. But good luck with everything! Hopefully your process goes a lot smoother than mine.

:talon: :shhh:

I had purchased NGK iridiums off of Extrememotorsports.com but they sent me the turbo plugs gapped to .30 instead of .44. SO i just bought the cheapest plugs I could afford at the time.... I want to put Iridiums in, but currently its not that high on my priority list.

Once you get them in, let me know if you can tell a difference with them compared to the cheapy's that you have for now. I am really interested if they actually perform like they are suppose to. If it creates better throttle response, idle, and better MPG...works for me. Keep us posted! :thumb:

:talon: :shhh:

go for it man, i started out slow too, and i still am,LOL, but i definatly noticed a big improvement dough.however, not tring to go turbo is hard, i already have i/h/e hi flo cat and underdrive pulley.i am currently working on modifing a jeep tb.after that i'm stuck cams maybe?im not putting nos on a 125k car cuzz its also got to be a daily driver, peace. :dsm: :talon: :laser: :thumb:

Yea, no NOS for my setup, now or in the future. I have weighed the risks, and even running a 35 shot is a little to risky for me. This car has to last me 4 years (through college) and I dont want to risk it. We will see how fast she is in a couple weeks!

I just wanted to update you. Parts started arriving today! Yippe! I also purchased a set of red OBX Cam Gears off of ebay for 150.00 bucks shipped. I know OBX is usually crap, but I need adjustables and I didnt have the money for AEM's etc. So these should do fine. In fact, I have heard from some freinds that these units are just as good as the AEM's. This means that I will have some tuning abilities with my car to get every last ounce of power out of her. The engine should be here by friday (tenativly). I will post pics up soon!

A little update.

The engine still hasnt arrived... and I still need to get a lot of parts.

But I did scrap the JDM Cyclone Intake Manifold for this...

WOOT WOOT! Magnus Motorsports Intake Manifold off of the classified section!

"Magnus Sheet Metal Intake manifold, this is the style after the adjustable runners. It is a Cylinderical design. If any of the old school guys remember this intake, it was used on Project White trash. The intake is unlike the newer designs, it is a BOLT ON affair. It includes all the fittings, all the vacum hoses, brackets to remount the coil pack, and a custum 2.5" mandrel bent ABS / Front Battery located Upper Intercooler pipe routed to the stock location. There is nothing to modify, it is the simplest sheetmetal intake to bolt up. This intake improved 1/4 by .5s on project white trash. This intake may not be pretty but it is a quality peice that even after a few good years of use has not cracked or shown any signs of problems. It is a one off, bolt on affair. The plenum is 2l. Could use a polishing as its been sitting in storage for while. The intercooler pipe is flange for a 1g bov or a Greddy Bov. http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/about.asp - 5th paragraph for those who need a flash back."

I'll keep ya updated!!!

I recently purchased kyb gr2 shocks, skunk2 coilovers, apexi n1 catback, control arms, thermostat, a/f gauge, volt gauge, and a dual pod. All this for my n/t.

I know I am the only one replying to this thread but I just ordered some HKS 264's (Intake Side) off of importevolution.com. I would edit my post to reflect the new setup but I cant so i'm going to repost the updated list...

Looks good :thumb: Are you planning on keeping this n/a, or do you plan on putting in a turbo someday or a shot of NOS? How about doing internals? Just curious ;) Should be flirting with the 200hp mark that everyone strives for in a n/a.

:talon: :shhh:

After I get this running and tuned (remains to be seen what type of HP I end up putting down) I have a couple more engine plans...

(1) Ported/Polished Head w/1mm Oversized Valves and 5 angle valve job.
(2) Headers of some type, either the Borla model or if punishment motors ever produces a peice
(3) High Flow Cat

Possibly upgrading fuel w/ 390cc's and stock engine managment, or getting 450cc's and a SAFC w/190lph fuel pump. But that isnt a prime concern right now. Until I need the extra fuel, i'm not investing money in it.

The internals are going to be left alone. I need this as a daily driven car (kinda) so I'm not going higher compression pistons, NOS, etc.

The rest of my plans (suspension, brakes, etc.) can been seen at my car domain page by clicking the "Here" in my sig.

Do you think the current setup is capable of 200? I was shooting for maybe 170 at the wheels with tuning?

Hard to say. I know that 200hp can be reached without doing any internal work. You have nearly every mod lined up for rest of the motor, so it should be real close. I was able to do a bunch of internal work to mine, and actually keep it as a daily driver :thumb: with no problem. In fact I still get around 400-450 miles on a tank of gas after everything that I have done to it. Very important right now especially! If each of your mods work well with the others, than you can really pull some good results out of your motor. But if your computer doesn't like something or isn't set up for the upgrade, you will actually lose out until you get you computer reprogrammed. That is the boat that I am in right now. Too much work done for a stock ECU to keep up. This will be my next step, then I will be able to see some definate results. :thumb:

:talon: :shhh:

What exactly is your problem??? Air/Fuel map to severe for stock ecu etc? What are you doing to correct the problem?

EPROM ECU, with TMO Chip etc? Piggyback fuel system? Since we are soon to be in the same boat (give or take a couple months) I would like to know what problems you are experiencing. Thanks!

I tried the "piggy-back" device, but for some reason it caused it to run too rich and foul up my plugs. It interfered with the computer even more, causing it to be even more confused. I was looking to send the ECU into JET and they will reprogram it to the specifications that I have modded my engine to. So that way the A/F ratio, fuel curves, and power bands are more precise to what I am looking for. Should run about $400, but my mechanic/friend who helped me with all of my engine work said that it is well worth the money and I will see the most drastic results from simply doing this. We'll see I guess.

Keep me updated on how it goes! I guess this will be a future mod for me as well. Did you need to buy an EPROM ecu for the N/T or did you use a turbo model eprom ecu?

JET Contact number/website?

I haven't done anything yet. I just got my engine finished about 2 months ago, so I am waiting for my savings account to build back up. I will have to get back to you on the contact information for JET. I have it back at the shop. Perhaps this part you could help me out with. What exactly is an Eprom. I have seen pictures of it on other posts, but no real explaination. And would I have better performance results if I use a turbo ECU compared to my stock n/a....both now and when I send one or the other in? I haven't done enough research yet to know anything about my options. Any advice on your part?

I have heard that JET chips suck, and that much more could be used with the 400.00. But then again most of this was from turbo owners, so it might not apply to our situation. An EPROM ecu is an ecu that can be updated, or upgraded with reprogramed functions (higher rev limit, fuel cut etc.) However, you must use a EPROM ecu which not all DSM's came with. You can usually get an EPROM ecu on ebay, but N/T eproms are a little more scarce. In terms of the turbo ecu in a N/T. I dont know to much. You would think that the fuel curves, etc might help our engines because we have modded them fairly extensivly. But I dont know that it has been done before.

My plan was going to be this:
Get a EPROM N/T Ecu and a upgraded ecu eprom from either http://www.tmo.com or a similar store. Get that outfitted with something that would help our N/T's deal with the mods a little better.
Then I was going to get a SAFC 2 to help control the fuel curve once I upgrade injectors and fuel pump, etc.

I think it would be better to look into the use of an upgraded EPROM ECU with a chip than the JET performance module. That is simply my humble opinion. Any thoughts are welcome!

Ok, this helps with knowing what to look for. I will have to check to see what ECU I am using. The idea I had with JET wasn't a chip or module. It was a complete computer reprogram of the factory ECU. I know that there are no chips available for our n/t's, and the only module is from Venom, and it is no better than the cheap piggy-backs that are sold on ebay. My buddy, who owns his own shop, came up with the idea and process on his computer. He's done it on a few of his muscle cars and assumed that it would give me the same benefits. When he checked into it, the computer said this option was available for our n/t's. At least the info you gave me will give me a good starting point on what to do research on. I will definately have to look at what my options are and what would give me the best results. Appreciate all the help :thumb:

It's called JET Custom Computer Upgrade Kit. I did a search for it on the internet and nearly every distributer on the net carries it now. The price has bumped down to under $300 for it. It claims to take the exact specification of your mods and reprogram the ECU to comply to it in order to acquire the most gains. Search around and see what you think and let me know if this is worth doing or not. Otherwise I could start a new thread and see what the experts  on here think. :D Any suggestions are welcome! :thumb:

I love the ups man...

He was nice enough to bring some stuff by today. The cams were ordered at 1 PM yesterday and arrived today! Thats fast shipping! Props to importevolution!
