My fly wheel won't come off and I'm developing a hatred for it...

I'm trying to mount my engine on a stand but need to remove the fly wheel. This will be my first time, Haynes and Chilton both treat this part as a simple removal.

I first tried bumping it with a rubber hammer and pulling. Then I ran out and bot a fly wheel puller but the bolts are to big to fit in the puller I bot. So I returned the puller to look for one with bigger holes. There were none that I could find. Instead I picked up a cheap steering wheel puller and spend a good 30 minutes grinding the holes to 12mm.

So now I get the bolts on the puller witch is on the fly wheel and try twisting the center punch bolt, but it doesn't feel right. Now I'm afraid I'm doing something wrong, and on top of it all DSMTUNNERS was off line wile I needed it most. :(

Now that I can log on, I could use some help. Heres a picture of were I'm at, but with the bolts removed:

Does the fly wheel even come off in this manner?

What have you done to remove the damn thing?

Thanks, Sean.

Happened to me last summer on the 6 bolt i was putting in my car. We tried evrything incuding air tools. Ended up taking the block to a person we know who owns a real shop with a compressor the size of a small room and the botls came right off...one had to be heated up with the torch tho.

Nothing i can really offer you as a tip except keep trying and if it fails, take the block to your local shop and throw them a few bucks to remove the bolts for you.

My bad, I don't think I worded my problem right. I have the bolts out but the fly wheel is still stuck to the engine. I tried a puller but don't want to brake any thing. Should I just reef on the puller bolt and hope it comes off?

Never heard of that happening. Only thing that can cause the flywheel to be stuck like that is extreme heat maybe?

Good luck!

If your not reusing the flywheel I would get a big ass hammer and pound it off. But thats just me. I've never seen one stuck on before either. Mine came right off after the bolts were out and so have several others I've done.

I don't know but I'm starting to think this is not going to work!

If the bolts are holding the fly wheel on, then how am I going to pull it off with something in the bolt holes.

I'm I just pulling on the same thing I'm pushing against?

I think the sun got to me today, thanks guys..... I used the hummer on the back of the fly wheel and looky what happened...

The pullers holes would not take the 12mm bolts used to hold the fly wheel on. So I opened them up some.

I didn't want to hurt any thing banging it with a hammer, this is all new to me. I'm learning as I go.
... even a rubber hammer.

Yeah it was pretty damn hot today, we live in Washington, it's not supposed to be this hot until the middle of July.
