Hello all,

I'm moving from NM to DC...just got a job out there. I'm wondering what emissions laws/regulations are like in DC, and what---if anything---I should prep my 1G for when I move out there.

My car has the stock exhaust, including the cat, but no other emissions equipment installed (no charcoal can, egr valve, etc.)

Thanks for your help!:rocks:

You're going to need to do something to make it look like you have the other stuff. In DC it's a little easier because of the type of people, you might find someone that will let you slip by. Here in Va it's a bi*** because hillbillies run all the emissions stations and will find any reason to fail a modded import. I had a emissions place that failed my car stating that the k&n wasn't compliant even though it was the factory OEM replacement part.

I also passed the sniffer test all day long with no emissions but kept failing the visual due to missing solenoids, egr, etc. What I ended up doing was mocking up all the vacuum lines temporarily and running them under the battery to make it look like they were going somewhere and doing something and sticking the solenoids back on the firewall. It was enough to fool the rednecks at the station into passing the visual inspection since It would already pass all day long on the sniffer.

Depending on how long you'll be there and where you're living, you can get away with using your NM plates for a while, and they won't bother you then. I lived there for about a year and kept my SC plates. I got pulled over a couple times, but they couldn't do anything because I had out of state plates.

Another important thing is to find a shop/garage that will help you slip by. Just ask around and you will find a place.
