Just had an idea, wondered if it is possible or if anyone has ever talked about putting a MIVEC 4G53 head off of a newer evo and swapping it with a 4G63 head off a 1g talon. im sure it would need a bunch of support and computer mods for the VVT but first i just wanted to know if it would be possible.

Like John said, it would be quite a bit of work since most of it doesn't match our head. Plus for the price you would pay for one, you could just about throw a built head on there.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that the 4G63 MIVEC only varies cam timing, it does not have muliple cam profiles. I think all that would be gained is mostly bottom end. But having the head on backwards might be cause for other more important concerns. ROFL

well yea i know the 4g63 in the evo is rotated compared to the 1g but why wouldnt the head bolt up if u just put it on the 1g rotated? sure the pretty valve cover would be flipped but who cares.

Maybe this will help you visualize what I was talking about:

DSM

........Intake

TB................Belts

.......Exhaust

EVO8

........Intake

Belts.............TB

.......Exhaust

So if you flipped the EVO8 head it would be:

........exhaust

TB................Belts

.......Intake

and i dont think you could switch the cams around

best bet is probably to just build a 6 bolt head for the 1g. A lot cheaper and a lot easier and less complicated. DSM's are enough of a headache as is.

yo i just did a 6bolt swap w 14b and 2g pistons, how much do you all think a MIVEC longblock would be? that would be nice, of course i could just swap in a 2.4L block instead for the low end torque, but mivec looks tight yo

edit* and prolly saves some gas too (like 3$a gallon for 93 oct here in ky) [BTW thats NON-reformulated =P]

I love how these threads always start with I "just had an idea". Do your research after you have your idea so less people will make fun of you.

I have an idea! (bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble bubble) unh what were we talking about?

Mivec is mad tyte yo, gives me about 200hp in the arse-dyno, but it doesn't match Honda's Vtech thats like 550HP just by the switch to Vtec.

Lets put a B18-GSR head on the 4G63 block for Vtec! ROFL

As far as i can see, no MIVEC for you! For various different reasons, the main concern of course being that the head is backwards compared to a DSM.

even if you just turned the head around so the TB is on the right side, the cams will now be rotating backwards. im no engineer, but im thinking that wont work right.
