I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these dash install kits for aftermarket decks? I picked one up for my new pioneer deck at Best Buy today and I was wondering if anyone had pictures of how theirs looks.

you don't want to use your superior stock brackets and just buy a din pocket? it will be more secure and sturdy. The install kits for our cars just has the deck slide right in.. very easy to steal, and just not as stable and might tilt or so

Alright I got it installed a few hours ago. I'll take some pics tomorrow. Redturbo I seen what you mean about the easy way to steal it so I secured it with some screws. I remember back when I had a prelude I used a metra dash install kit and didn't secure it. I stayed the night at my girlfriends house and the next morning it was gone. easily pulled. This deck is secure though.

I ran an audio/alarm shop beginning of this year... Metra is actually the best, more pricey tho. American International is cheapest but really nice, just limited on some applications. I would go with American International for Looks if you can, if not go with Metra for quality.

And for best install, assuming you don't have the stock stereo plates, locate a set at your local salvage yard, and bolt your stereo in. Cause AI and Metra are all plastic, and should only be used at worst case senario. Makes it easier for a thief to steal your stereo cause they can just grab, yank and break the install kit to steal your stereo. The stock install plates actually screw them into your dash.

After my stereo being stolen out of my 94 Talon, I got a set of the stock plates, screwed the stereo into it and I used custom star screws with pins to screw the stereo into the dash... just so it makes it more of a bi*** to steal.

BEST INSTALL KIT PERIOD!

InfiniteGSX I will definitely take that idea into consideration and do it sometime very soon. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Your kit is the same thats in my friends Eclipse, VERY easy to steal. If only I could find photos of mine... My Alpine was bolted to the metal plates (this is on a 2g as well, not my 1g), and I had a big pocket under... very clean install....And sturdy as all hell.... I was about to do this to my 1G right when my stereo was stolen.... So now I'm definitely never going to run an install kit.

yea i use that kit too as wel as others who for some reason dont realize the stock brackets are the most secure and sturdy, or they simply dont have it to begin with.

that thing is so easy to steal, its plastic, and yes you still mount the back of it to the stock location, but its plastic, thing will snap with enough force, and the deck just slides in there.

where as the stock plates not only mount to the back, but the sides also have holes so you bolt on the new deck on the side of it as well, also this prevents the deck from being angled wrong because its secured not just hanging in there like the plastic install kits.

also if youve seen the stock brackets on the 2g, it has these things on the side of the plates, where even if they manage to pull it out, those brackets hanging on the side of it will stick to the console and will make it tough to remove.

but hey the install kits still work, i use em myself, but no doubt is the stock ones superior.

Thats why you steal your own stereo... then prevent yourself from stealing it... when I get my high end deck or screen installed. I'm pop riviting the stock plates into the dash instead of using screws... Sure it will make it harder for me to remove... but what are the chances a thief is going to think...."hey lets bring a drill with a few drill bits!"? Its either pop rivits or going to screw it in, and grind the face of the screws down so there is nothing to screw them out with....

Just so I can laugh at the thief... "HA! Yeah keep trying sucka's!"

Yeah my car didn't have the stock brackets when I bought it. The kid already had a half ass job done in there where the soldering was done wrong and the deck was hanging by one screw. I do plan to go find some of those brackets though so I can keep it safer in there.
