carbon fiber dash kits

I need close-up pics of the material and kit installed before I spend 175-200 on a CF dash kit.

Well, since all of you guys said that the fake ones look like crap, which I agree, I emailed the company that was sellin those fake cf kits for $100 to see if they were real or not. Of course they are imitation, but for $30 more you can get the real thing. So for $130 you can get a 21 piece real cf kit for your car. Just trying to save some of you fellow DSMers some $$$.

Well I was never a fan of carbon fiber but I did like this gauge cup so I ordered it. I think it will look good, I hope it looks good anyways...

That company is Alkaplus, or the kits are supplied by Alkaplus. Ask around about what people think about the kits Alkaplus makes and you'll understand why they are so cheap.

I know that you're trying to make a living, but for crying out loud. It's just a cf sticker kit right? I could see spending $300 if it replaced the actual panels in the car. Personally, I think paint is the better way to go, cheap, the color you want and the satisfaction of doing yourself. Now only if carbon fiber came in a can. ;)

Carbon fiber is kind of expensive to work with. hence the higher costs of the real carbon kits. And we make a lot less than you think on a kit.

And get a quote for a CF shop to make actual panels for your car. If you offered $300 for even one little piece, they'd laugh you out of their shop.

Paint is cool too, but some people like carbon and metal and you can't paint either of those.

The CF and wood kits are supplied by Quality Laser, but we are experimenting with making the carbon kits in house right now. Testing materials and such. Our billet aluminum kits and diamond plate floormats are all made in house.

what do you sell then???

Ok, I have an offer if anyone is interested. Since I need pics of the CF kit, I am willing to cut a deal to the first person who is willing to buy a CF kit and send us the pics. I'll basically sell you the kit at our cost just so we can get the pics. If interested, email me at [email protected]

If that is the case, how come you can get a whole hood for $450?

Because it's made overseas. BTW, the cost on a $450 hood is only about $99. That's what you can buy them for if you order like $30K worth at a time. A hood isn't that hard to make if you have a mold. But if you wanted interior pieces done in carbon, it's much harder. Just go to a shop that does custom carbon fiber work and ask for a quote. The material is expensive, but a lot of the cost is labor too because carbon fiber is harder to work with than say fiberglass, that's why so many are made overseas, cheaper labor.

But that's another issue. Carbon fiber is relatively expensive to work with, but it's not the biggest cost of a kit. The 3M tape on the back is actually more expensive than the carbon fiber or metal. And most of the machines that cut this stuff cost a ton to run. I don't know about the other shops, but ours is $150 an hour to run. So it all adds up.

If you like the $130 kit, get that one. Lots of people have. And if you like the $250 21 piece kit, get that one.

I bought mine from Tora Sport; 5 years ago. It looks just as good as the day I put it on, no pealing. It was expensive back then. If I remember correctly I paid around $250 for it. But it was worth it, I get a lot of compliments on it.

Hmmm Dunno. They used to run a small ad in the back of a magazine. I think it was Sport Compact Car. I just phoned in an order. I'll look for the number when I get home tonight.
