What's up peoples. Just need a real quick answer to a real quick question. I am thinking of upgrading my turbo to a 16G and I was wondering what is the max PSI/ HP you can run on out stock motors (4g63T) before having to replace internals?

You will have no worries with stock internals handling the power that a 16G can put out for you. A small 16G will usually get you somewhere between 325-350hp, and people have made in upwards of 450hp on stock internals.

So, what about a 2g engine? What can you do that motor before having to replace the internals? How much can you boost, what turbo can you upgrade too?

2g is the same engine so it can handle the same power. Only reason doubt the 2g engines(7 bolt) is because of crankwalk.

No, 2Gs have higher compression than 1Gs, so thats's why they can't take as much boost. Crank walk is forward and backward motion of the crank, upping boost isn't going to effect this.

so again i will illustate my point AGAIN. What can the 2G platform handle, what turbo upgrade either be my kit or turbo alone will be cost effective and engine reliant on a 2G with stock internals.

This is the true question i think all new guys really want to hear the answer too.

I am gonna say it depends, I have seen a 2g with a 20g put a huge ass hole in the block with just supporting mods ie exhaust, intake, injectors, cam gears ect.. I have also seen a kid with a 50 trim who has run it a long time with all supporting mods and cams and he put down around 400hp on 18lbs of boost and has never had a problem, It depends on a lot of things the amount of abues the engine has seen, weather propper tuning is done ect ect... The point is, with a 16g unless you do nitrous, you will more then likely be fine, you will blow up the turbo before you cause internal damage. I guess if that did not answer your question, what is it your asking????

boosty make your own thread if you have your own question. This thread pertains to 6 bolts not a 7 bolt. And yea 6 bolts have "handled" that power but they do not handle that power long. If you are making 350 hp off a s16g, you are probably over using that turbo. But yea, i wouldnt go far beyond 300 hp if you want your motor to reliably stay in one peice.

Holy cow is this thread full of misinformation....

No, 2Gs have higher compression than 1Gs, so thats's why they can't take as much boost.

So the reason why most serious 4G63 builders up their compression to around 9.0:1 is to make their engines weaker? Upping the compression allows you to make more power while using less boost and also gives you better power out of boost (driving around town). The side effect is the margine of error in a tuning aspect is narrowed by doing this. 2G 8.5:1 pistons are a perfect street car piston setup and wont narrow that margine of error much over the stock 7.8:1 1G pistons. I've had the setup and Im telling you all this from experience.

2g is the same engine so it can handle the same power. Only reason doubt the 2g engines(7 bolt) is because of crankwalk.

Research more before making posts like this. The reason 2G 7 bolt motors dont traditionally hold up as well to as much power as the 6 bolt is one, the crankwalk issue, and two, the rods are MUCH thinner (hence the reason you want the 1G/2G rod/piston combo). Those among other parts differ from year to year, so no they are not the exact same motor.

so again i will illustate my point AGAIN. What can the 2G platform handle, what turbo upgrade either be my kit or turbo alone will be cost effective and engine reliant on a 2G with stock internals.

Consider the following:

-Milage
-Wear and tear severity
-Past and present maintainance habits
-Possibility of crankwalk
-Owner driving habits
-Supporting mods
-Your tuning skills

Your answer, it all depends. If I had to say one turbo I'd feel safe recommending in this situation, I'd say a small 16G, simply because it's a good turbo upgrade for a beginner. Not too much power for you to handle, but yields a great gain over the stock T-25 and wont push the limit of stock 2G internals. Decent tuning and proper supporting mods should get you a low 13 second/high 12 second timeslip "reliably" if your AWD (add ½ second for FWD).

boosty make your own thread if you have your own question.

His question is regarding the subject, only pertaining to a 7 bolt. Which is fine, he is not hijacking the thread (plus the original poster got his answer).

yea 6 bolts have "handled" that power but they do not handle that power long.

Says who??? I can point at least one person on Tuners that I know of who is running right around 450whp on a stock 6 bolt and has been for quite sometime now. Refer to my third post to see what matters should be adressed to ensure long life of your engine.

But yea, i wouldnt go far beyond 300 hp if you want your motor to reliably stay in one peice.

Again, it doesn't necessarily regard HP numbers, more in the means of maintainance, proper tuning, and proper supporting mods. You can easily have a 400+hp, daily driven yet reliable DSM if you have those meantioned plus be maintainance minded and possess that good ol' thing called common sense.

hey deiselboy, thk you for the educated and logical answers to my question and supporting me in this post.

Any idea where I can find a new s16g for cheap. What other mods would go great with this turbo, of course keeping the internals the same.

Any info would be helpful.

thk alot,

tyler
