Real quick, I had to take my o2 housing heat shiled off when I got my Evo III housing on, and I also got the Evo III exhaust mani. I still have the heat shield on for the mani, but I'd like it to be bare. Will there be an excess of heat in the bay if I take off the shield? Also, I have my MBC mounted on my BOV recirculation tube. Will that be too close to the manifold if I remove the heat shield?

Thanks,
Ben

A lot of people run without them, but it just raises the underhood temps. I would leave it on personally, b/c I'd like to keep it as cool in there as possible, since thats where my air filter is.

It's better to leave the heat shield on. It's better for exhaust flow and the higher heat may shorten the life of your alternator. You could heat wrap the manifold, but I wouldn't leave it bare.

Yes there will be excess heat in the engine bay without the exhaust manifold heat shield. It will most probably result in melted fans or a dead alternator. If you don't like the look for the stock heat shield, get one from http://www.jmfabrications.com/dsm.html It is $45.

FYI - I've seen one JMF heatshield with a BIG JFM logo on it. If you decide to buy it, you might want to ask them if they sell it without the logo.

Funny, I just ordered my JMF manifold sheild last night. It comes polished or non polished at no extra charge. I also asked them to cut a provision for a Tial 38mm WG on the number 1 runner, he said sure, no problem, no charge. I ordered mine polished. I have seen these shields on DSM's before, and the quality is awesome, great fitment, and thick. Easily worth the $45. Also, whatever you do, don't forget to put on some anti-seaze on the bolts to ensure they will be removable later on. About the JMF logo, was it on a non polished shield? Maybe the non polished ones have the logo? I dunno.

Ps. They are right about killing alternators, I killed one b/c of heat.

Any idea if these can be ordered with a cutout for an EGT probe on the #1 runner? I'm not using my heatshield now because I ahvent got around to cutting my stock heat shiel;d, this would look much better.

Look at post 20 on this thread - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210720 It looks polished. It is also a lot wider than the pic of the heatshield on their website.

Here's the pic if the link above doesn't work. Car belongs to fellow member BaddAssGst.

I don't think the logo looks that bad, it would be kind of cool though if you could get it engraved with somthing different. But, anyway someone mentioned earlier about raising the under hood temperatures, I can vouche for that man things get hot fast underneath there.
