Just have a few n00bish maintenance questions.

1. What are the stock NGKs? The NGK part number.
2. What's the best oil to use in a 1G? Also pertaining to this, anyone use Lucas Oil Stabilizer in there DSM? Should it be used?

Thanks!

IDK about no 1
but about number 2
Under Tech articles in engine or something it talks about Lucas Oil Stabilizer to fix the "clicking" in 2gs, it is great stuff for 2gs but I dont know anything about 1gs
I know this is kinda a half assed reply :p

1. BPR6ES. Move to 7 series if you do minor modifications which include increase the boost significantly.

2. There is no best oil to use. I use Mobil 1 (10W-30) in my 2G; I haven't experienced oil leaking ever since I replaced my valve cover gasket, and my lifters don't tick. Any synthetic oil should be good. However, I have heard good things about Royal Purple or whatever it's called. I don't know squat about oil stabilizer, but I don't use it in my car...

1. BPR7ES
2. This is like asking which toilet paper is the best, everyone has their own opinion. The majority agree that synthetic is better than conv. oil. I personally prefer Castrol Syntec as my choice but Mobil 1 seems to be the most popular price and performance-wise.

I would recommend Lucas Oil Stabilizer for any automobile. It ridded my car of the "tick" and it only costs 2 bucks more per quart than the Mobil 1.

I, also, run Mobil 1 10W-30. I think you will find that most DSMers do. There is an interesting article floating around about Mobil 1 protecting your motor better after 3k miles, as well.

Which could have been answered with a very casual search, but whatever.

BPR6ES. You won't need 7s for a very long time.
2. What's the best oil to use in a 1G?
Whatever you like best. I'm partial to the Wal*Mart house brand, although I'm currently running Redline in my '95 because a pal gave me five quarts.

Quite a few around here seem to use it, there's one post I've seen cussing it out. Best I can say is that it probably won't hurt anything. Aged DSMs seem to appreciate RESTORE, but I couldn't guess why. Additives are mostly junk. Motor oils already have their own additive packages incorporated into their blend.
