i want to lower my car...about 2-3 inches but im not trying to spend a lot of money. i was originally going to cut them, but now im thinking about going with coilovers. any advice/past experiences that might help??

Don't cut them, you'll screw over your camber even more than lowering will. This isn't the Honda world... newbie rice doesn't fly on DSMs.

If you want it lowered, set aside about two grand. That'll get you a good set of adjustable coilovers (that have been DYNOED against one another to actually match) a set of camber plates for the front, and new arms on the rear.

If you're skint, set aside one grand. B+G Sport springs will drop it about 1.5". Then add on KYB AGX, front camber pins, and the new rear arms. Your backside will also be in pain, as it's a MUCH stiffer ride than doing it right, as with the $2K route... setting the AGXes to 'stock' levels will have you scraping any time you hit a speedbump. Need at least 2/4 to prevent that.

^^^id go with him if i was worried about how it handled, not how it looked. the first poster seems more interested in looks than performance.

id go with some cheap lowering springs, and some shocks, and a camber kit. you can get the eibach sportline(1.8-2" drop) off ebay for like 200, then some tokico blues for around 250, and a camber kit for who knows what.

if you plan on going any lower than 1.5 a camber kit will be needed. if you just want to reduce the unsightly fender gap id do what im doing now, eibach prokit and tokico illuminas. i already talked to a guy with the same setup and he said it made the car feel like a crx in the turns.

Gotta ask yourself if that's a good or a bad thing. :D

And sure, if you want a car that just looks good, you can lower it a LOT! Just take off the springs and shocks, and get some 2x4s cut to length to hold the body up. It'd be about as effective (and intelligent) as cutting the springs.

i would definitely not cut the springs. It completely change the handling performance of your car. (to the worst) There are many companies that make springs around $130-200 range, and most of them are solid.
