I know there are several posts that talk about both terms in my title. I have done some searching unfortunately I don't have enough time with the work that I do to spend hours comparing the differences in problems.

Thanks again to all those who have helped me in the past. Do these problems ever end??

Today's problem... my 92 eclipse will stall when I start it if I don't apply throttle immediately after starting. THen as I am driving and hitting every light through town since I am SOOOO lucky at each stop my RPM's plumet all the way down past 500RPM and then back up and then back down causing the lights in the dash to come on and occasionally stalling. I am sure it would stall more but I don't like stalling at lights so I always rev it back up. When running at normal speed it has no problems, yet.

One thing I did notice is that the stock oil pressure gauge is showing it as riding the line between low and normal. I just got done rebuilding the top end... please tell me the bottom end isn't going now too....

I don't know about your revving problem, but I may be able to help with your oil pressure problem. If your oil pressure only rides low when your idling and then comes back up when your driving, its fine.

Defiant put it very well:

My car has almost no oil pressure under 1000rpm.
Yup, it's a DSM.

My last engine spun #3 rod bearing. I think it was because this low oil pressure at idle that caused it.
It wasn't. More likely it had been over-revved at some point in its history.

Or should I not even worry about it?
You shouldn't.

Thanks and sorry for the length.
It's not just a matter of length, y'know.

I had this exact problem last night (if you haven't fixed it, this is all i did). I took off the intake pipe to check for blockages. I tried starting the car w/o the MAS plugged in, and it still barely ran. After finding nothing out of the ordinary in the intake pipe, I put everything back together. I played w/ the MAS plug for a bit b/c the seal wasn't flush. After putting it all back together it ran fine. I'm thinking the MAS plug was to blame, but I can't be sure. If this helps you, great.

I have not fixed this yet. I haven't had much time nor good enough weather out here in Washington to working on it. I did play with it for a moment and adjusted the timing since it was off a little. I also did some research and found that a dirty Throttle Body will sometimes cause it. When I sprayed the throttle body it did improve the way it ran for a moment but went back to running rough. I was gonna price a new throttle body just for the hell of it. I will try the MAS and see what happens. You just took it out completely and started the car? or did you plug the hole with anything?

Ignore my plugging question. I just re-read your reply and it makes a lot of sense. I willgo out and try it tonight if I get off this incident call. I had just finished rebuilding the heads and one of the issues I had while putting it back together was getting the Air Intake to fit back on the turbo properly. I hadn't thought about the MAS within the Air Filter. I will let you know how it goes.

Well I made sure the MAS was ok and tightened down the rubber housing around the Turbo inlet and it didn't help. I decided to put this on tape so people could see what I am talking about. I started it cold and it dies... then after a couple of saves with the gas pedal it runs like this in the video:

I could be wrong, but that kinda looks like idle surge . . . have you checked to see if your BISS has backed out? Also wouldn't hurt to test your ISC- one, if not all, of the coils might be bad.

Yeah, my problem actually wasn't fixed... My ISC was bad, i ordered a new one today. One of the coils was at 80 ohms instead of 30. Oh well, hopefully when i install it tomorrow everything will be gravy. I'll let ya know.
