This started out of no where about 10minutes ago.
I was sitting in a parking lot and I turned the wheel to back out of my spot and I heard a terrible, creaking, metal on metal kind of of sound. I drove the car to a friends place and it still does it when going over small bumps and when turning the wheel.

This is only the front right side.
Any advice would be appreciated this is my daily driver.

It's most likely the ball joint on the lower lateral arm (6 and 3). This is the recall part. Mitsubishi will not like to replace them if they have been replaced already. Some have had success getting them replaced a second time.

When the ball joint dries up, it will exhibit a loud creaking noise on turning and suspension movement. This will happen before the clearance opens and causes other problems like looseness and failure but that will come eventually if you don't take care of it.

The part is cheap and easy to replace.

So, you believe that the noise will appear, even though the boots appear fine, without any observable deterioration of the ball joint by means of the hand test and pry bar?
Interesting, but please correct me if I have the wrong idea.

Also, mitsu told me afte running my vin that there was never any such recall for my car, performed or otherwise. Should I dig up the number call the hotline?
The guy told me that the recall could apply to the car ahead of me on the assembly line but my car could be totally fine and thats why there is no recall for it. Is he full of shit (someone did after all say its for ALL 2g's)?

The large recall thread merely states what to do if they(mitsu) don't wanna do it, not what to do if they claim there is no such recall for this particular vehicle.

Thanks for the help guys, I was ready to put this to bed but now I'm concerned.

Yes, first the noise, then the looseness.

All 2gs are covered by the recall. Someone gave you the wrong information.

I just destroyed both hub assemblys and shatted my tranny, ontop of my cv shaft obliterated (<-spelling) I just had ALL THAT rebuilt but now my right wheel, is making all kinds of sqeeky noises and grinding like metal on metal but it only does it when I slow down, go in reverse, ect if i drive at like 30 or higher it goes away, if its under 20 it sounds like ......ssssssssst ssssssssst sssssssssst....LOL i dont know how to explain it heheheheheh but but like i said if i stay at a constant speed.... above 30 its gone.... do i have the same problem???

PieEyedPiper,

I found this thread because last week I had the same exact problem with my '96 Toyota Tacoma. It suddenly started making a loud, screechy squeaking noise from the front passenger side tire area, plus sometimes when driving over bumps. Then today, as I drove to get it check out by a mechanic, the noise mysteriously disappeared. The mechanic couldn't find any problems.

So, I was wondering if you ever found the definitive answer to what caused the same noise on your Eclipse GSX (and why the noise disappeared). Thanks!
