I just installed exhaust manifold gasket and turbo gasket. after that i went to drive the car and at when i boost past 10psi my car makes this noise kinda sounds like a horn like pressue escaping somewhere? i am missing one exhaust manifold stud and another stud is loose also missing 2 turbo bolts can it be that is whats causing this noise cause the exhaust manifold isnt sealing properly? or is this a boost leak?

Car was totally fine until i replaced the exhaust manifold gasket and turbo gasket :(

ya im thinking its just one huge exhaust leak, it'll kind of make it sound like you have an external dump.
and your prob losing spool up time cause of those leaks so hurry up and fix those.

anybody?

like at 15psi it starts and when i go more it gets louder sounds like a horn or sum sht...so u think its because im missing a bolt on the turbo and stud missing on the manifold?

yea i dont see whatelse it could be i mean it never made that noise before till i changed those gaskets and i notice my my gas was dropping like hell when i left the shop so im gonna stay away from boost and try not to drive the car that much.

your mpg sucks causes your car isnt running right with it losing exhuast that normally would help spool your turbo, so your ecu is over comp. for it! once you fix it your car will be back to normal good luck man

Good diagnosis, Doctor! ;)

Any pre-turbo exhaust leak is going to hurt you. I had a stud broken off on the far top right side and it would tick when it warmed up. Didn't hurt spool to any noticeable degree on a 14b, the leak and turbo both being so small. But fuel economy was a tad lower than normal.

dudei bought the car from even had the wrong bolts in the head well a couple and i had to make new threads in them and one of the holes i just couldnt get the drill to go in cause the turbo was in the way so now my turbo setup has to come down is what the shop is telling me in order to close the final hole :(

you guys think i will be able to reuse the new washers, studs, and bolts when i remove the manifold and turbo setup? i got the multilayer turbo gasket would that be reusable? i sprayed the gaskets down with copper spray to.

i remember when i first got my car, it was fine and spooled nicely.... but after driving it for a couple of months i noticed that my little exhaust leak kept turning louder to the point that my turbo would lag like for ever.. it turned out to be a couple of cracks that the previous owner had welded to seal them again... yet i didnt know that when you weld it, it makes it weak next to the weld, witch got cracked again and had a severe exhaust leak.... im talking about one that you could hear me coming down the street with a loud noise....

i wouldn't use the gasket again, but me personally i'd reuse the washers, studs, and bolts. i reused mine on my turbo swap and its been fine for me and im going on 15,000miles.

how about the exhaust manifold gasket its brand new i put it on yesterday and gonna remove the manifold again this week so it should be ok to reuse it but i think the turbo one i have to get another even though that one is brand new as well.

Why buy more new ones? If you didn't damage the gaskets you have, there's no point in replacing them.

You could donate an O2 housing to downpipe gasket to me for that info, if you'd like. Mine's cracked between the holes. :D

do a boost leak test. my car made a loud whistle or horn sound and the gasket for the j-pipe was bad.

well im gonna get these exhaust leaks fixed and also do a boost leak test couldnt hurt..but before i had no issues so im gonna try to get these gaskets and stuff finished cause i know i still have exhaust leaks since i got stuff missing..when im done i will go for a ride if the noise is gone then that was the problem.

do u think its because the exhaust manifold isnt on there good enough cause of the missing stud, loose stud, missing turbo bolt and loose bolt causing a huge exhaust leak to make that noise?

if you can man let me know if that fixed it thanks

but exhaust leaks cause bad gas mileage but can it do damage to other things?

I'd fix the studs/bolts first and the do a boost leak test. If you suspect it's something because you know it's wrong fix it before you go searching elsewhere. At least if it ends up not being your studs/bolt they are fixed now.
