I'm experiencing a sort of lope at idle. I have searched for the answer, but all I get is mostly results for aftermarket cams. I recently had the timing done (twice actually) the first time I got it back, there was some wicked vibration. Then I blew a hole in my tranny on my way to take it back to the mechanic. I fixed that and when the mechanic gave it back to me, the the vibrations were gone, but now it lopes at idle. I'm not sure if its rhythmic or not since i'm not near the car at the moment.

Anyone know anything to look for? I read about it possibly being an IAC, but heck if I know what / where that is...

Is it a lumpy sounding idle, like it is cammed? Or is is a very low RPM idle, like it is trying to keep itself running?

Mechanical timing being off can cause this. You might have to reinstall the timing belt but a little more info about what exactly it's doing at idle will help.

Well, I inspected the timing of the cams myself, and found that is probably the problem. I attached some pics of the cams in the only position they would line up. Notice how they are not even with the top of the block... :(

If it's out of time, that is this mechanic's second attempt at timing my car :banghead:

Why is it really that hard to set timing? Does it take too much work to rotate the engine a few times and check?

Yes its off one tooth both sides. Set it to TDC on the crank correct? That's really the only way to see which one is off.
