Having trouble getting info from CIMotorsports. Built my bottom end with parts and info from them, but when I refused to send/let them build my motor for me their helpfulness ceased.

Looking for info on parts compatibility that I'm looking to buy. Bought 2g parts in the past that I couldn't use cause they changed some things in 98 apparently.

Looking to buy Crower stage 2 cams, but need to know if both ends of the intake cam are threaded. Cam sensor on my 98 bolts to the tail of the intake cam, not part of the cam gear. Possibly even more important, I'm also looking to buy new rockers to put under the new cam. CI's Top line rockers say they're suitable with stock or mild cams. Are stage 2 too much? If so, can anyone recommend suitable rockers?

268/272 cams should be fine since they are not overly aggressive. If you went to 280 or higher then you'd be in the aggressive cam area. I'd have to let someone else inform on whether the intake cam gear is threaded on both ends.

Shows this on their site:
Street/Strip Specification
Plug and play application. Short duration for nice street manners, slight lope at idle. Excellent all purpose spec. OEM spring OK.

The only thing that changed in 98 is the 7 bolt split thrust washer and the emissions locations. The head is the same from 97+. Which is really just the difference in cam sensors.

Most aftermarket cams are compatible from 95-99. Most just use one design as it’s cheaper just to have both ends threaded and being threaded makes no difference if you were to use a 95-96 cas and not a 97+.

I run oem rockers on BC 272’s and haven’t had any issues. I run their matching spring kit as well.

As far as if your specific cam has both threaded ends maybe post a link of what you want to buy and see if any else can chime in. If it specifies 95-99 then I would assume yes. You could also reach out to the manufacturer and ask as well.

Thank you for getting back to me! As u suggested, I contacted Crower Cams (ordered stage 2 with titanium spring kit), and they confirmed that the intake cam is threaded on both ends. Was only concerned since the head I bought was an earlier 2g. Wanted to use the cams that "matched" the head, but the factory cam wouldn't accept my tail mounted sensor. Hada use my original cams that were in the motor when it jumped timing. Seem to be fine, but since I have roughly $6k in the motor thus far, figure I should build the top end to support the bottom end! Lol Thanks again for the info!

In addition, you can use a 97-99 cam sensor on a 95-96 head. The bolt holes are still present on that side of the head even though they aren't used. I found this out doing a 6 bolt bootm end.
Thanks! That's what I ended up doing. Just hada use my '98 cams. The cams that came with the head (stock for the year) weren't threaded for my sensor. Yet another disappointment in my build. Also bought and "built" a 1g head for better air flow. After getting it back and bolting it up, I found out that the thermostat housing and coolant runners were different. Couldn't find a 1g stat housing and piping, so I bought and refurbed the 2g head I'm currently looking to put stage 2 cams into. I now have an $800 paperweight! Lol
