would any of these ft the bill or should I be looking at something else?

My goals are to have a custom made exhaust with high flow cat and a quiet, stock looking muffler.

Ideally 2.5"-3" downpipe > 3" CAT > 3" catback > Dual tip muffler.

numbers 14862 and 14830 look opretty good. But only one problem. the inlet diamter is only 2.25" !

Is it possible to cut out the small piping at the inlet and weld in a 3"? Or should I just be looking for a different muffler? I think it would cause a lot of trouble trying to modify the muffler.

Should I be looking for something more like this one?

My concern is that well..its ugly. And it doesn't have tips and the exits ends are spaced pretty darn far apart.

what do you guys think?

i have the "ugly one" function over form. to me it looks stock and makes the power. you can always buy tips.

I have the muffler in your second link, the thing looked great till mid december when it rusted to hell. As for sound, crappy, it resonates badly. You are better off with a single outlet muff as they do not have port interfearance noise as badly as the dual outlets. I myself plan on changing to something else like a Thermal R&D muffler.

I'll try and shed a little light on the subject cause I am constantly changing my exhaust or messing with it. My buddy runs an exhaust shop and get all kinds of shit in there, but he deals with Magnaflow directly. Those dual tip mufflers from Magnaflow are a street series style muffler, which means they are dead quiet and sleeper style. They are more for the fella that wants a good looking muffler and nice mellow tone, not for performance. You can't change the the inlet size or modify it because even if you got the 3 inch to work it still has an 2 - 2 1/4 in. internal core which means crappy flow, but keeps the sound down. Now, you can one of there race series oval style mufflers with the polished tip that have a 3 in inlet. Those flow and sound good. Believe me, if you have a high flow cat and a race series muffler from Magnaflow it won't be loud. It will sound good and deep, but also flow excellent. You could get a race series muffler order a dual tip and just weld it on, but IMO that is gross and is more costly. Just go with a better flowing muffler that is a straight through. The cat that posted the muffler on this thread before looks like its a good setup. Dual tip and 3 in inlet. Go with that if you want. Later.

I have the race series 3" dual 2.5 outlet it's not as deep as people said it was. And it's LOUD search under my name and you can find a sound clip no cat/test pipe either

It's pricey but thats whats going on my car as soon as i can't stand the bullet muffler dejon gave me. I think it's the sex, and very stock looking.

Cool site, apprently those mufflers i listed are availiable in 3" inlet sizes on that site. So I might be in luck, only thing is that theres no variety, no 14830 options.
But regardless I'm sure itd look nice and really, angled, ovaled, tips are a luxury. As long as its dual tip and nice looking I'm sure it'll be great.

Also thought I'd share this with everyone as kind member Pm'ed me this information:
"Hey man my friend has the 14830 on his car and it sounds really low and quiet and he runs around 400 horses. But he has a 3 inch exhaust all the way back and just uses a cut out when he wants to go all the way out. the ugly one is for trucks or big cars that its mounted up under the truck so you can run dual exhaust out both sides or something it looks really wierd to see it hanging in the back i think youll be dissapointed. I have a Dunk megaphone i think its made by APEXi but im not possitive i bought it from some guy. It is a single outlet and is kinda big but not like ricey big. It is really low and sounds awsome especially when boosted. It is deff a bigger exhaust but its worth it for the sounds and power upgrades." - Dump Truck

Kind of confused. So is the muffler good and sounds good. I got an apexi dunk also and I absolutely love it to death, but I do want something that the cops will pay less attention tom so let me know.

I run a 3 inch glsspack with no cat or muffler and just a custom dual tip I took from a borla exhaust....they fit the 2G rectangle perfect. IAlso I think my car sounds really good...theres no tone high or low like a muffler will give it just rumbles simular to the Srt-4 with its dual glasspacks.

Ill get a pic tomorrow, I remounted and welded it last week.

Mine are old version of this...but 3 inch

I just got my exhaust done today and it sounds and looks great. What I used (and people are going to probably flame me for this saying it won't work, but it does great better than the stock pieces) was a flowmaster series 40 muffler and had dual tips put on. The cost from cat back was $150 w/ muffler and tips. I had to get it all replaced there where 2 resinators in my exhaust where the car was a n/t. :thumb:

What kind of glass pack did you get? Ive been wanting to get a new exhaust system for awhile and Ive had the idea of using one but I was unsure of how it would sound.

looks good!
can you elaborate on the sound? how loud does it get? does it drone on the highway?

Looks nice, but i think i'll stick to the magnaflow one from kteller. Not to mention the one you linked to has DUAL 3.5" outlets. . . THATS HUGE. The kteller one is only dual 2.5" outlets, much more stock looking IMO.

I found Magnaflow to offer a stainless stock looking oval w/ dual 2.25" stainless/stamped tips.
My only prob is they don't offer it w/ a 3.5" inlet. They are polished tips

That's the size of the bend I used off a F350 tailpipe.Need it?No,not right now but I got it so why redo it later?Flows like no tomorrow and doesn't look too bad except for the muff.

At idle it has a low menicing rumble and as you gas it it gets louder and deeper up to about 3.5k rpm then it starts getting quiet. It is not real loud at all just deep kinda like a 5.0 Mustang. You feel it more then you hear it in the car. At highwat speeds 65 to 70 Which the speed limit here is 65 it is really quiet. Pretty much as quiet as the stock exhaust was. I will try to post up some sort of sound clip. I love the sound. And it does make a good improvment over then stock exhaust.
