I've asked this question once before and this is probably asked all the time and yet I've searched and nobody gives any straight/clean answers.

i just graduated and from my dad, his graduation gift is a 96 gsx (7 bolt correct me if my wrong) with a rod knock of sorts, i haven't even seen the car myself in person or heard the noise but from what he and the guy who beat on it for a few months causing the sound after buying it for 4k then parking it for months both suggest it could possible need a new motor depending on damage when me and my dad pull it apart but who knows it could just need a pin or be low on oil the guy who owned it knows literally nothing about cars and practically destroys them for his hobby.

but worst case, where can i purchase stock 4g63 short/long blocks?

NO I DON'T HAVE $2,000-3,000+ FOR A magnusmotorsports, buschurracing, dsmgraveyard, etc. staged motor.

their has to be one somewhere for less thats in atleast decent condition so i can start driving this beast.

p.s. I've done some research, i live in Utah, and i can't find a reputable engine importer of any kind around here especially who deal with dsm's. if you know of one please enlighten me.

thanks in advance guys

I say pull the motor and find out what kind of business is being done down in those cylinders. I would say you are better off trying to rebuild if possible. For my $$$, I like working with finite details I can control, ex pulling engine; you know exactly what you are working with. However, a used crate engine is going to be a relatively unknown commodity, you just don't know what you are getting half the time. I say attempt stock rebuild, then look locally, then resort to a used engine as a last resort. Plus you can learn shit! :thumb:

Napa told me 1700 for stock rebuild, I said scratch that saving 800 more and shipping the block to jacks transmissions and getting done right, I've heard bad things about those used imported engines like Irish said you have no clue what you might get.

yeah just rebuild it your self its not rocket science its pretty easy just take the crank and new rods and pistons and have them balanced at a machine shop

check the block and make sure it dont need to be bored over any
