I live in Oregon. Will removing my front license plate and putting it in the front window on the passenger side get me a ticket? I haven't seen any threads about this and I looked up Oregon law through thte DMV website about plates etc. and could find nothing wrong with this.
Anyone have any experience with this?

man , they will ###### just give you a " fix it " ticket.

I doubt if you will find the law on the DMV site. When you do find it, it will brobably read something like:

Front tag shall be prominently displayed in an upright position so that it can be seen from the front of the vehicle and from an angle of at least thirty degrees. Tag mounted no less than twelve inches from road surface and no more than twenty eight inches. Thou shalt not count to three unless first counting to two, blah, blah, blah.

Whether or not you get a ticket depends more on the law enforcement in your area and less upon what the law allows. I went without a plate for about two weeks after getting my bumper repaired and got pulled over in rush hour traffic on I-95 and handed an $80 ticket.

I dont run a front plate, and had done what you are suggesting (putting the plate in the front lower window) and gotten pulled over. The cop just warned me and told me some story about someone being in an accident and ended up getting their passengers face cut up due to it getting flung back into the passenger compartment. I now dont have a front plate period and have never gotten pulled over, I think having it in the window makes it more obvious for an officer to see, rather than not having one at all and them being able to tell. Probably just the type of cop that pulls us type of people over, instead of those #### rednecks with their huge ass trucks and loud ass exhausts.

I live in N.E. Portland. I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars since 1999. Could be good luck or the fact that I don't drive like an idiot, but I haven't had a single problem not having it.

The fact of the matter is, front license plates were not intended to be mounted inside the windshield. Whether or not you get ticketed for it probably depends on the circumstance your in.

Here's a link to a site that shows which states require front/rear/both plates on cars. It does list Oregon as requiring both. So, your call really.

If arizona and florida only require back ones, we should too. Why the hell have a less crime state require both, compared to a state with THE HIGHEST CRIME only need the back?

Well I had some front end damage done to my car so when it was being fixed I told them to leave the front plate assembly off and just put it in my trunk. Well later I was talking to a DSMTuner member (Alex) and he had just gotten a fine for not having his plate on front. So I quick went and had my liscense plate mounted back on. but I agree, why do Wisconsin people need front/back and Florida people only need back.

Yes. Also, if you are speeding, what part of the car are they most likely going to see? That's right. The back. I think they make us have two plates, just to waste our taxes and money.

I think having a front plate may also have something to do with people being idiots and running red lights. They'll get you at those intersections with camera's mounted on them, I'm pretty sure they only have the capabilities of taking pics of the front of your car. I also read somewhere that the police came up with a camera that takes pictures of your car if you speed past it, and rather then getting pulled over, you get a failed performance evaluation (ticket) in the mail.

I live in medford and the cops don't like imports here.my friend got a fix-it ticket for not having a front plate. ive been driving my girlfriends del sol around and it has some front end damage and the plate can only be held in with one bolt so its in the dash. no tickets yet.(knocks on wood)

I have gotten that ticket in NYC, it was a shot of my rear. Front plates are made for parking lots when you park and your meter runs out, so the cop can just write the ticket from his car and toss it on the windshield without having to walk to the front of your car, which should be parked head in.

I know from talking with WSP (Washington State Patrol) officer that lived near me (Vancouver, Wa) that if the car is not equipped with a way of mounting a plate in front (from factory) it may be required but you may not be able to compile with the request do to way the vehicle was manufactured, and may be able to contest the ticket in court 'according to that particular officer'. So maybe if you did not drill the dimples on the stock bumper or filled them in you could fight it in court or tell the officer there are no holes for mounting. I have yet to be pulled over for no front plate I used to keep it in the front window until I cornered hard on day and it sail out the open driver side window on to the busy street, I have it front mounted now I didn't like playing human frogger to get my plate back:dsm:

Yea I had it in the windsheild for about a day, it kept flying into my passenger seat everytime I turned or accelerated. I just keep it under my passenger seat and tell the cop that someone hit my car in a parking lot and I found the plate on the ground like 20 minutes ago.

Is it possible you can help me find if this is possible in Wisconsin too?
