kinda stupid question. Boring motor

so my motor was bored .020 and it has about 500 miles on it now i didnt know if i would be able to hone it out or what? i know that it depends on how the walls look. im just woundering if i should try to go to the junkyard and taking a newer block and have it bored .020 and use that. thanks

i was just woundering if i can find time to start my build if ill need to bore it out again (my grandma had the motor rebuilt before i bought it)

A freshly honed cylinder is desired for new rings to ensure a proper seal. The thing is if your going forged you might want to send the pistons to the machine shop and have them check the piston to wall clearance. They should be able to hone to it to a perfect match.

BUT you have a freshly rebuilt 6 bolt that would hold 450-500 hp so why do you feel the urge to rebuild it.

Its going to sound stupid but ive always wanted to build my own car the way i want too. I dont want a 450-500 hp car and say that i had a shop rebuild it. My step dad has always told me if your going to put money into a car/truck do it the way YOU want it. so thats the main reasons. i also like learning about everything there is.

You have a freshly rebuilt motor with less than 500 miles on it, and you want to rebuild the rebuild?!?! Don't do it! 6 bolt motors can handle around 400hp on stock internals. I think the record is 500? Correct me if I'm wrong. But if you want to build it on your own start with bolt ons and pick and choose the ones you want.

If you rebuild it again your gonna be like, "man, I just wasted all that money for parts for my rebuild when I didn't even need one, when I could have been buying bolt ons!"

Main point is you said in your last post you don't want a 450-500hp car, so you don't need to do any internal work.

Back in 2001-03, it was cheap and easy to buy a 4g63 from most of the shops around San Diego. Since my motor in the car was already needing a rebuild I pulled it and swapped in the good condition motor. Then I spent some time rebuilding the block and head. When I sent the block into the machine shop I had them match the pistons to the cylinder wall since I wanted a .020 overbore and of course they had to hone after the overbore for proper ring seating. Building a motor is fun and stressful at the same time. If it's your first build just take your time and be thorough. Pay close attention to detail and ask your machinist a ton of questions even if you think it's stupid. Good luck.

Thanks im thinking of just doing the same and getting a motor out of a junkyard and building it then when its done ill swap it, ANd guy above i said that i dont want a 450-500 hp car AND say someone else built it for me. i didnt say i dont want a 450-500 hp car
