Hey all,

Don't worry, I know we're not supposed to post racing stories here. This isn't one (as far as I go anyway)... ;)

I was out cruising in the Talon on Monday after work, and I was getting ready to turn right onto a 4 lane road. As I was waiting for traffic on this road to clear, I notice that the last car I'm waiting on (so I can make my turn) is nothing other than a red Laser! So I think to myself "cool, maybe I'll catch up to him and give him a friendly nod".

I make the turn, and it looks like he's slowed down somewhat so I catch up to him fairly quickly. He keeps slowing down and he's in the right lane, so I slowly switch lanes and start to go around him. His Laser looks like it's in decent condition, the exhaust looked kinda rusted out and there was some rust and a few blemishes on the body here and there, but not too bad. So as I get even with him, I look over and notice that the driver is a Hispanic kid, looking like he was maybe fresh out of high school if not still in. He's just looking at me with a sort of blank stare, but I go ahead and give this fellow DSM'er a friendly smile and a nod. As soon as I do that, what does he do? He steps on the gas!

I just sit there in my lane, watching in amazement as this kid punches it and pulls away from me, "enjoying" the somewhat beat-up sound of his car, watching the exhaust rattle as he gets further and further away. I just hold my speed, and say to myself "Oooookay then, whatever you say buddy!" Finally when he's maybe 1/8 of a mile ahead of me he starts to slow down again. I end up catching back up to him, never once changing my speed from my normal cruising speed of 5 over the limit. Again I look over at him, and again he's giving me the blank stare, except this time he gives me a thumbs up! So I smile and nod again (what else could I do? :p ) and at the upcoming intersection he goes left and I go right. An interesting experience.

I don't know if he thought I was going to race him, or if he was um... just trying to give me a *show*?

I guess that's what happens sometimes when all you're doing is trying to give some respect to a fellow DSM'er! Now I imagine him telling his friends about how he "smoked a 2G Talon like it was standing still, yo!" :D

Oh well, it's always fun to see how people are going to react when you just try to say "Hi there!" :thumb:

Anyone else have similar "non-race" stories?

Why yes I do, thank you for asking. :p

I was cruising home one night not too long ago on this very long street home to my house. As I pull up to a set of lights, this green Honda pulls up. Look over to check it out. It has several area's sanded down on the body, the hood is a primer color, the wheels are stock steel ones and the exhaust is stock but buzzy for some reason. He starts to rev his motor several times. Lights turn green and I pull of at my usual pace and shift right at 3K. His car is making these aweful noises and is somewhere behind me. Then he proceeds to catch up and play the roll back and shoot ahead routine. I was so amused I just let him continue to do it, for about 10 miles. This moron does it the whole way! I get to my street and he just keeps on driving. The best part was the sound it made. Kinda like that Briggs & Straton he had under there was trying to hard.

I only race cars I can lose to. ;)

I have a similar story.
I'm cruisin' around Saturday and see this beautifully restored Cadillac, I love classic's and I honor them. Well, I catch up and yell to the driver "nice car!" he just gives me this weird look. Geez, most Hot Rodder's/ restorer'sare nice but this guy was a prick. Geez, I love import guys, they seem to have more class (except the bad apples). Now the people that are jerks are Honda guys, in person they are nice, behind the wheel or over the internet they are jerks. Can't really wave at them, they just rev at you and always want to race.

I was driving and seen a green 2g, since i'm in love with dsm's i obviously start to take a glance at this car.. All of a sudden I hear some screachy bi*** scream "what the #### are you staring at". you cant even look at people in my town anymore without being yelled at:( i only had a friendly convo with about 3 strangers with dsm's everyone else just yells at me or acts like they are so cool because they have an EcLiPsE Rs WiTh RiMs Yo! :|

Its been pruven that our generation is getting stupider. Or more stupid. Maybe an oldtimer like defiant could elighten us on the ricers of yore. :p

I hear ya. Back in the day (in 1996 when I first bought my T-Bird :p ) I was 20. I wanted to think that my V8 Bird was the fastest thing on the street because I loved it so much, and I think it stopped me from appreciating other cars like I should have. My mentality was that it's more "me vs. the world" whereas NOW, I have so much more fun appreciating other makes and models of cars.

To me, it's alot cooler to give respect to others and get it in return, because we all love our cars and fast cars in general. While it's hard not to want to be the fastest, it's just never going to be reality. There's always someone faster. We're all one big family out there, as far as I'm concerned.

Its fun! :)

Good stories guys, keep 'em comin'!

This wasn't on the street - wasn't in my GSX, either, but funny just the same.

I'm parked in one of those high rise garages - this was an older one, a long rectangular structure - EXIT is exact reverse of IN, so you have two way traffic - and it was a little tight at the corners.

Anyhow, I'm descending from six stories up and some guy comes zoomin' up from behind, ziggin' and zaggin' like a racer warmin' up his tires - except that this guy would really like me to just get out of his way.

I fugure I'll just be cool, stay in my path, and, if he wants, he can try zoomin' round me on one of the straights.

Works out that there seemed to appear incoming traffic at all the straights, and this guy is really fuming.

Anyhow, I'm not sure if he got distracted or totally lost his cool or what, but, at one corner, he kept on ziggin' and zaggin' right into the turn - and, don't you know, he smacked right into the concrete wall, not head on, but a nice long sideswipe. Sparks went a flyin', and I saw him stop, get out, and stare in disgust at what he had just done to his car.

I'm chuckling to myself and feeling bad for this guy, all at the same time.

I know what you guys mean... Ok, someone please explain this one to me. What's the point of revving your engine at someone in the on-coming lane? This is happening a lot to me. I'll just be driving down the road doing the normal speed limit minding my own business and I'll notice a tuner car coming toward me in the oncoming lane. As the car approaches and is just about to pass me it revs its engine real hard at me. What do these people actually expect me to do? Stop, turn around, and chase them down to race? I can only imagine what these people might say to themselves after they’ve passed me…
“Alright! Yes, another one bites the dust…. That’s 3 in-a-row and 8 total for the day!”
Stupid kids

Heh, someone did that to me today. I thought they wanted to play around, so when the light turned green I mashed it up to about 50. Turns out the other guy just wanted to watch me haul ass LOL :(

I've had a few similiar to your story, although NONE are DSMs...most DSM people around here are cool.

Mustang drivers seem to be the biggest issue with me. I was cruising down washington, this GT catches up to me and drops to 2nd, and punches it...then slows down...I then drop it he is still in second I punch it...he doesn't..so WTF? I slow down get even with him again he punches it, I punch it and he stops..I guess this guy is all show no go.

I've had similiar situations with Mustangs..Again on washington I run into a Mustang (V6) and he wants to race, so I punch it he punches it...I beat the crap out of him. So what does this Mustang do? Oh yeah thats right the RICER fly-by! YAY!

A 5.0 Mustang raced me from a light I ate him up...he pulls next to me and claims he has more people in the car thats why he lost...give me a break..I had 3 it wasn't that big of a difference.

Another 5.0 Mustang passenger asks me if "I'm fast and furious or slow and curious" as a reponse I drop it to 2nd and go, I pull pull pull...on this 5.0...now what do they do? Pull a ricer fly-by and say "I guess you are slow and curious <insert common cuss words here>"

I treat people like I want to be treated..if I lose a race fine..I congratulate them, ask them questions about their car, etc. No hard feelings. Its pricks as I've mentioned before that I hate.

Honda boys aren't much of a problem around here in terms of attitude, although some of them really need to look at themselves and realize that a stock civic setup with a aftermarket muffler is not a fast car.

Ok..so I got a little off subject. :D

I meet so many people who don't run their cars at the track, but would rather street race. I don't understand it at all, but that's me I guess. Keep those stories coming! :thumb:

:talon: I always rev my engine to around 5,000 when I pass another dsm, it's my own dsm howdy...our cars are able to hit good rpms compared to regular dailys...so why not impress other vehicles around when we are just saying...HI! :thumb: Oh, and my car has been running crappy due to my new wheels and tires *used* so, the last couple of vetts, and a pimped out wrx, I have high revved to just to be a jerk to...I know they would stomp me so I raced a 2.4L grand am to boost my ego back up

Luckily my T25 spools anywhere past 2K, so I can give it a little throttle and hear my bov make a little noise. People always look. Its more for the John Deere in his F-950, not the fast car. :p

I have a weird story...kinda confused me when it happened, but here it goes. Alright, I went to Panama City over a weekend to go see the tuner bash. When me and a few friends were driving down there, there were alot of nice cars that drove by...but me and my friends wanted to keep a nice convoy going to Panama City so we wouldn't get lost. BUT one of the people i went with, another DSMer with a 1g turboed version, got tired of sticking together... and we saw a prelude and a mustang going at it. SO my friend with the 1g floors it and sticks right behind them. I can hear his new BOV in the distance. It was funny, he got right behind the lude which was behind the mustang and zoomed right beside them at cut off the mustang, it was classic. So the rest of us finally catch up and go to the hotel.
BUt while driving back from the show is the weird story. There's now only 3 of us...my friend with the 1g left early. So it was; me, with the stock looking 2g but i have cai, hi-flow cat, cat-back; one friend, with a camry-bodykit and vinyls- no go at all; and another, with a yellow civic, cai and exhaust- had a bodykit and stuff. We were just driving in our little convoy, and an old school prelude came up. He just stuck with us, he was doing the roll-back and zoom forward and slow back down thing. He did have a really nice sounding exhaust, but the rest looked stock. But he kept doing that...but when we got to the light i pulled in behind him, we were in the middle lane, he was at the front of the row waiting for the light, and there was a van on his left side. My friend in the camry was beside me, i asked him, "should i try?" I don't normally race, but i love to drive fast. And he replies "Yea, you should...but not too long too many police hiding out" So when the light turns green the prelude goes off...and the van is slow enough i cut right in front of the van and pull ahead of the old prelude and reach about 70 and look at my rear-view...I didn't see any headlights around me, he didn't even try to stick with me...I was confused at why he didn't try to race me, he was trying to show off earlier. A few minutes later my friend in the camry catches up...I say "What the hell happened, why didn't he follow?"...and my friend says " I think you might of scared him". Then we laughed
I don't get it...he was doing the roll back and shoot forward thing, trying to intimidate us, probably just the riced out camry and civic not me, but when i zoomed past him he didn't do anything. That's my story, sorry if it's too long. But if some idiot wants to try to show off like that, he better be able to prove his car is worthy of racing.

^^^ That's why I like racing at the track. No morons doing the ricer flyby or curb surfing with his 19's on a stock civic.

Ok..so I got a little off subject. :D

Let me clarify the mustang situation to you, it either a MUSTANG, whereas everyone knows it has a v8, you may state 5.0 mustang so everyone knows it hasa 5.0 V8 , but don't say 4.6 mustang because if you don't say 5.0 , then everybody knows it has a 4.6 . Now, its not a Mustang (V6) , they are called V6 mustangs, it like one word, try saying it V6-Mustang (veeeuuhhh-ssiiiickkkkss-muh-stang) , you say V6-mustang because then everyone knows its crap and the V6 degrades it even more so.

I have a similiar situation with you fellas. There's this black Neon that stays around the same area as me, and I've seen it a few times on my way to picking up my brothers and to work. ONe day, I took my dad downtown and pulled over on a back road for some gas. As I put gas in, I heard a Bleehhhh!!!!! sound, the guy was downshifting as he drove by. This Neon has a hug ass spoiler and a motocycle muffler and some clear lights on the back, with an R/T sticker on the back. So, he drove by and I look at my dad and we both laugh in amusement.

After I paid the clerk, I started the car and look in the rear mirror and guess what's behind me. The Neon. I pulled around and looked at him and laugh loudly with my dad. So, I pulled out and he followed me, tail-gating me, for about 7 miles. My dad wanted to cash as check so we stopped at the bank on our way. He zoomed! past me as I pulled out. We were 15 minutes before the bank opens and so we waited. As we wait, I asked my dad, " do you think he might be waiting for us somewhere ahead?" As we got out of the bank and about 5 miles down the road, to our surprise, there he was. Waiting for us at the car wash. :D We laughed in tears. So the lane splits in two lanes and the speed limit is 35 MPH. The guy pulled next to me and starts reving his car, it souned like it was gonna die, and it took off going about 50-55 and what makes it better is that there's a cop was waiting about a block away. Lolz..

So, I'm assuming he likes my car? He wants to race since he has a spoiler, muffler, clear tailights and an R/T sticker on the back? Not sure what this guy wants.
