Okay I know there are 2 or 3 other threads out there but they're all very old and I have a 1g AWD.

I'm looking for input from members who use either one of these coilover sets.

Im looking forward to hitting the track with my 1g but it's also my dd. I've heard a few good thing about both. But really, I'm hoping that, today in 2010, members with either one of these sets will chime in with your thoughts about the ksports and/or Megan racing coilovers..

I'm sitting stock right now and I'm pretty sure all my shocks are blown..

Thanks guys.

I had Ksports on my 1g for a year and loved them! I was a DD and drove it everyday. I put about 20,000 miles on my car a year for work. I am getting some for my race car and my budy is getting some for his 2g.

I use k-sports as well. I've had them on since June 09 and I daily drive my talon. The ride is stiff, especially over the crater-sized pot-holes of the midwest. The car feels very rigid though, and takes corners with ease now. Good setup for the money.

I put Ksports on my buddys car, they were veryy stiff but the car handled nicely after 2 years and 30k miles on them plus trying to dodge the WWII mortar holes around here they finally blew up. He's now riding on some TEIN basics:thumb:

Wow, looks like these are holding up pretty good. Have you guys had any problems with the camber or adjusting the ride height?

So there are 3 posts and 4 votes, 2 votes for ksport and 2 for megans. Somebody is not sharing info LOL..

Anybody out there that has owned or ridden in both sets?

I have used both. I first tried the ksports, but after one Canadian winter one of rears and one of the fronts blew up. The seals went with less than 4k (on for less than 6 months) on them, needless to say i wasn't impressed. I did send them back and they were replaced under warranty but at my expense to ship them there and back. I couldn't wait for the turnover (was 3 months). Not to mention i had to pay for the import duties through UPS because they would not ship them as a warranty replacement. So in the mean time i bough a set of megans, this is my second winter on them with over 10K and no issues. As far as the ride goes... I really didn't notice much of a difference between the 2. I would say, however, they megans seemed to be a bit less harsh on a similar setting.

Megans handle really good but the 12k/10k springs rates are a bit stiff for daily driving. I have daily driven them and it was just too stiff for everyday driving. Another option for you is Koni shocks with Ground Control coilovers, Koni's are very well made and easy to revalve/rebuild and with the Ground Control coilovers you can choose your spring rate. Just to give you something to think about.

I've installed megan coilovers on an rsx and and 2 eclipses. The ride quality is great, some say its to stiff but when you're that low any car is going to ride somewhat rough. Megan makes a line of great products and I have yet to have a problem with any of their products. I have also installed Ksports on a nissan sentra, it rode like absolute shit and the fronts blew after one winter. They did ride a lot nicer in the eclipse they were on but they also blew up. I have heard the new Ksport models are a lott nicer then the older models so it's completely up to you.

I had a set of K-Sports on my 89 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo 4WS. I was on a canyon run and blew one of the fronts in under 150 to 200 miles. The other Front side blew out after a few months. One side also seized where you would adjust them at the knuckle. Quality wise I must say that they were crap. They rode just a bit harsher than Illumina's with GC's. I would not recommend them but I hear other have had better luck. I sold them shortly after I received my front warrantied and noticed the rear was beginning to leak.

I have JIC FLT-2's on my 98 GSX and Koni's with H&R Springs on my GVR-4 now. If I go the coilover route on my GVR-4 I would more than likely just keep the Koni's and go with som Ground Control Coilovers.

If I had to choose between the two you are thinking about, I would choose the Megan just because they are apparently made at the same factory the Apexi are produce where the K-Sports are made at the same factory the D2's are made.

I think it would be helpful to know if all these that blew out were at the stiffest settings, or if they are seeming to do it (fail) at any adjustment point.

Well I used to have ksports, but they suck donkey balls in cold weather environments so they had to go. Konis and Teins now and the ride is SMOOTH.

Koni/ Ground Control combo is the best around 2 of my friends have it on their integras and they take corners with no problem. They are also great for dding as long as the spring rates are low.

What colors do these (Megan, k-sport, d-2) come in? I think the colors will be how I make my decision since they are all basically the same (in ways) unless someone could throw some knowlege in here.
Should I now try to figure out what spring rate is best for me or that won't really matter either?

Megans are a shiny silver with red pillow ball mouts, Ksports are orange, and D2's are purple. Springs rate plays a huge factor in how comfortable the car will be daily driving. All the choices will be stiff enough for what you want to do with them.

Ksports are orange and are the proper (ish) spring rates for a stock DSM (or close to it) Unless you're significnatly lighter, or have much heavier wheels/tires these springs rates should work out for you... Or unless you have a thicker rear sway bar, in which case you should take the rears down slightly)

Megans are black silver and red i think. stock spring rates are way to high on these, but you could order whatever you wanted

D2 is purple I think and I'm not sure they're being sold all that much anymore.

Realistically the koni/GC setup is better for you.

I'm getting ready to throw some Ksports on my car, I'm excited about it. I've heard a lot of good things about these, and I know a lot of Euro guys running Ksports and they all say good things about them and they're all picky as F***. I had JIC Magic FL-TA2's on my Evo and both the fronts blew within 2,000 miles and my buddy had the same one's on his WRX and took a corner hot on his way to work and the rear bracket snapped completely off.. I don't think its how the coilovers are made, its how you set them up for your driving..

What made you chooses the K-Sports? I bet you like orange ha:p

Are the Ground Control/ Koni setups capable of being set a factory ride height?
I know the KSports and Megan Racing coilovers are advertised as being able to do this, but has anyone actually tried to set either of these 3 to factory ride height specs?

Thanks for all the input fellas. I decided to go with the Megans. I put them on last night and they are way better than stock that's for sure! I have them on the softest setting and I gotta say that I expected a much stiffer ride but nope, she feels beautiful. I took a couple turns and man does it feel great!!:D Maybe because the shocks that were on there were shot or just because the Megans are that great but I am very satisfied!:thumb:
