K&N filter no smog????

I am trying to smog my car and the guy said that I need the stock air filter box in order for it to pass smog. Does any one know anything about this.. And if it is true where can I find a factory intake. Thanks!

What guy? There is NO intake that will effect smog unless it eliminates things. K/N not only have smog exempt numbers (should be in the box) but they do not eliminate anything. You get the FIPK w/adapter or a drop in and removed teh box? Either way just show them that nothing was eliminated (breather, vacuum lines..etc) and you will not fail.

i would think that is correct if you took the whole intake housing and what not off. you can find a stock box on www.dsmtrader.com for cheap.

i've the same prob: failed visual inspection w/o an "EO #" on the kn filter.

dsmtrader.com seems deactivated; where else can i get a stock air box or air filter w/ EO #? thanks!

I think there was an issue with the C.A.R.B. number for 2G K&N FIPKs because they are only for Mitsubish Eclipses and not Eagle Talons, despite them being the "same car".

If you got a FIPK (and you didn't fail because of the Eclipse/Talon discrepancy) but need the EO number, try calling K&N to see if they'll send you the sticker. It's worth a shot. As for the smog thing, all you should need to do is point at the EO sticker and say "that's for the air filter". That's why it's supposed to be in plain sight.

thanks guys... but that was like 2 years ago. . I ended up just finding a smog place that didnt care about the visual inspection. THanks though!
