It would be nice to be able to set it to fwd only, for a long road trip.
I'm sure the fuel savings would be worth it, with the engine not having to turn the rear wheels and differential.

This is a common misconception. Even if you turn your car into a FWD using this method, you are still spinning all of the same components through the rear wheels. So there are no savings.

However, under full power there might be some modest savings. Which is why I often entertained the ideal of turning the car into FWD in the 4th gear (which is last 1/8th mile on a low 10 sec car).

okay sorry to bring back the dead but im debating if i want one of these transmission/transfer case combo. im curious on how hard it is to switch it from awd mode to fwd mode? also if i were to break a transfercase could i just throw on a us transfer case and it would work? im guessing if hes bustin off 10 second passes on a stock jdm switchable transmission that it will be okay for me....:thumb:

Since this was brought up from the dead then I will make my point and run away :D .

Using dyno in fwd (for awd) is not pointless. The actual point of using the dyno is for tuning and comparison. It is not for the dyno queen numbers of "look how many ponies I gots!" A really experienced dyno guy can show you all kinds of numbers. There are numerous articles out there on this (July issue of American Iron Magazine for instance- just happens to be in front of me).

The dyno should be used for comparing one item to another. Say you want to compare TB's or cams or downpipes or headers etc.. You can see how each item affects the curves of your torque or hp. If you want to tune, you can see how your adjustment affects the curves of your torque or hp(as well as the peaks). Remember it's really not about what the peak power is anyway. It is about the pattern and longevity of each curve. Though it's nice to say look at how much horsepower I have, the dyno is a tuning and comparison device.

I've seen here that some people without any personal experiece come and BS about stuff that they dont even know about :notgood: . I wont pick the names but its becoming so anoying....Why FWD would be a good thing on the dyno? You pay less for dyno, at least, and its easier to find a dyno place. If its easy to switch from AWD to FWD(Especially from inside of you car) i can see some benefits there.... AWD is not a good thing for the highway, FWD is better unless you have no traction, RWD are the best for the highways!!! SO there are some benefits....
How the skyline is getting crazy 1/4 times, easy 8sec and 9sec.... I believe that car can switch from 4WD to RWD....ROFL

Pointing things at me yet again eh mirk? Can't you understand that it doesn't always require direct experience with something to understand how it operates.

Like i said before, there's good things and bad things about these tranny TC combo's. I just don't think i would trust it to run my system, not to mention all the work and cost doesn't seem worth it IMO.

But to make Mirk happy everyone stop talking in threads you don't have DIRECT experience dealing with, because god forbid you make him mad.

I apologize if you found yourself in whatever i said. I want you to know that I have nothing against you...The topic was, and is, very intersting....Its important that we hear from people with some personal experience, not a personal opinion....:thumb:

Let me know when you tune an awd car on a fwd/rwd dyno dyno, then you can come back and edit your post.

Well, gee, thanks for your permission! (Frustration) Power output is power output. The amount of drivetrain drag is the amount of drivetrain drag. Dynos measure the amount of change in the ..... never mind. Point made previously.

Oops I came back, sorry.

Theres a 12mm holding a clip in. You remove the bolt and a pin slides out, releasing the rears. Same thing on the t-case.

also if the t-case blows up can i just switch it with a regular us transfer case or am i gonna be screwed untill i get another jdm t-case?

now if i lock it in fwd mode do i keep the driveshaft on the car? if no what else do i have to take off the car to slap it in fwd mode....

thanks in advance for the help...

Yep, basically just take the bolt out and pull the clip off. You can put the bolt back in so you dont lose it and still keep it in FWD mode. You can use a US spec t-case if the splines are right. You keep everything the same, other than the removed bolt and the clip, it all just becomes dead weight then.
