when i bought my 97 gsx i was told it had an evo3 7 bolt bottom end.
(ie: JDM Evo3 bottom end 7 bolt [no crankwalk on this version])

i was wondering if there is any way to check to make sure it really is an evo3 bottom end. it came with receipts from DEVO tuning in chicago, il, but doesnt say what kind of bottom end was used in the rebuild. i've heard that they are quite rare and hard to find parts for, but i dont really know anything about them. what are the differences between the evo3 bottom end and the stock 2g 7 bolt bottom end? what kind of power will this block hold before i need to take it apart and rebuild the motor with forged internals? any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not "crankwalk-proof." I've seen multiple 6bolts go for a walk.

All the parts on that motor SHOULD be the same as 2g 7bolt, like water pump and stuff. Only upside and MAJOR difference to evo3 motor is higher compression pistons. like 8.8:1.

Also if it was and evo3 bottom end, it will be equipped with an evo3 oil filter housing which runs an external oil cooler.

i know its not crankwalk proof. i just listed what the seller stated in the ad. thanks for the info. so the evo3 bottom end isnt going to hold any more power or anything like that? basically just higher compression?

I heard that the evo3 bottom end used different thrust bearings that wernt as prone to crankwalk as the 2g 7 bolt. Worrying about crankwalk is silly, its a very overplayed issue. There is higher compression which will give you a small amount of power, but as far as I know the rods and block are the same.
