Ok, my 1995 Eclipse GS with 150,000 miles has what seems to be "rod knock"...

I am going to rebuild it, using this kit: http://www.howellautomotive.com/How...ct_info.php?cPath=142_38_174&products_id=1207

Now what else should I buy? Will anything else be messed up from the rod knock that I would need to get fixxed thats not included in that kit? I am just trying to fix the GS so I can sell it for something turbo and AWD. This is going to be my first rebuild on a DOHC inline 4, but im hoping its going to be somewhat as easy as the 5.0's and 3.8's I rebuilt in school.

Also, what is a good book to get to follow the rebuild with?

Thanks, Ben :dsm: :thumb:

I dont know much about rod knock in 2g engines so I cant help you out much there... I suspect you might need some micelanious gaskets, etc...

As far as a book, the Chitons Manual is great, and has pictures of a dissasembly of the 420a. You can pick one up at your local car store fairly easily. Hope this helps some.

since you have a 95, you have to get a different set of main bearings, made for a 95 block. also since you have rod knock, might have to get the crank machined if you scored the crank.

Ok, thanks guys. I may put this off again tho, I found a 1991 Talon TSI AWD 5 speed, 400 bucks, its been sitting since 2000, but it started right up yesturday. I think it needs a clutch. :)
