Is this Magnaflow muffler worth it?

My buddy at his shop is going to install this muffler for $200. Thats for the muffler and installation. Is it really worth $200? I know that this is polished stainless steel and has a lifetime warranty and that a lot of people recommend Magnaflow for a smooth deep tone but thats a lot of bones for what seems so little. The only reason why I am replacing my stock one is because the stock one has a horribly loud whistle/hiss. I just want a muffler with a deep mellow tone, looks mostly stock, and looks nice. Any input and experience would be greatly appreciated. BTW, its all on stock exhaust so would this actually achieve the deeper tone that I want?

i just put a magnaflow on my 95 tsi that has stock exhaust and it definitly sounds deeper.

the one i bought put on was a bit cheaper, and installed it myself so ended up no where near 200

What type was it? Race or Street? Round or oval? Size of tip? That kind of stuff. All the details about it. I am a serious tight*** so if I am going to drop the bills on something I know it has got to be worth it. I would do it myself but I dont have the time (I would do it in my auto body class, but I am currently repairing both quarters on a 97 Avenger that are nicely damaged). He would also put up in nice and tight, I hate working with exhaust so I know I would have it cockeyed or hanging low or the tips sticking far out the back.

Umm, to me paying $200 for a muffler is kind of loco WTF You could have a full exhaust for less than that :rocks: Both chris and I picked up our Tsudo catbacks for a great price :shhh: and they sound and look awesome. I'm not quite sure what all you're lookin for, but just thought I'd give you a little heads up on that :thumb:

Well hopefully it will all be good, cause the muffler came in today and I am dropping my car off in the morning and picking it up after school. I will let you know how it turns out. Plus, maybe I will write a review on it since I could only find a couple on just the muffler itself and they weren't the same kind as mine.

to answer the question you asked before...not that it matters anymore...

street, oval, 4 inch tip - i love it. at idle it kind of purrs, then when you get on the gas a little its much deeper then stock and only a little bit louder, then when you smash the pedal to the floor it sounds like a jet taking off. it roars like crazy.

btw, paid less then 100 shipped for mine, few bucks on an exhaust clamp and a new gasket for the pipe that goes over the rear axle. didnt take too long to install either.

I don't think you should pay that much for a muffler. I got mine for $50 (tsudo muffler) it had a nice deep sound and had it welded on for $20 more. So yea $200 is way to much. Just search on ebay you could find something similar for a lot cheaper

Well I did end up dropping the bills for it. It ended up being 270 cause I had a hole in my flex pipe also so he installed a new one. I know 200 seems hella expensive, but I didn't want some cheap muffler. The only reason why it was that expensive was cuse of the muffler price itself. It looks super clean on there. Not big and gaudy and the 3 inch dual tips add a nice touch. The fact that its stainless steel and has a lifetime warranty is reassuring. As far as sound goes, it completely surpassed my expectations. I was thinking it would be mildly deep and quiet. Its extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely deep. Just a tick of raspyness around 3 grand when cold, after a few shifts then its gone, but any muffler will do that. On the outside its nice and throaty, but once it gets past 4,500 rpm the all deep sound goes away and is replaced by a not only deep and throaty, but more of a race car effect. You almost forget its even a 4 cylinder. It completly changes tone. Most cars get even louder and, mine completely changes pitch. Its never loud and fart can like. On the inside is a different story. Cruising along has become a headache. Most people spend a ****load of money on subs and stuff, well mine comes from the exhaust. From idle to 4k everything in my car vibrates. It has so much bass on the inside that it actually hurts. So now I am going to have to invest in some Dynomat or something of the sort. All in all it is a great muffler. Really effing deep and throaty, but not gaudy or ricerish.

way too much but like everyone else said too late.i spent like 135 installed.i tried a different one and it was like 75 installed

Do you have a full exhaust setup? Or just the muffler and exhaust tip?

he just has the muffler on the stock exhaust.

I know what you mean by the sound change at full throttle. although mine sounds a little different being on a turbo model, friends say it sounds like a plane taking off when they are behind me and i put the gas pedal on the floor. very unique sound to say the least

Yah, I wasn't going for performance reasons. Its just my daily driver for now so I am not worried about that. I just wanted to get rid of that stupid whistle (which it did) that most of the N/T's have. Definetly happy about it. I eventually got used to the drone, but everyday it seems like something is starting to rattle loose cause of it. Lotta money though I had to do it, but at least it ended up being what I wanted.
