I have a 2ga, with the slim opening in the front bumper, so i thought this would be perfect. I doubt my car will see more than 20 psi, and ive heard of over heating issues with the larger front mounts. This seems to be a decent leangth and pretty thinck, so i hope it will work. Is there any thing I need to know about fin designs when choosing an intercooler? also, where to get pipes bent, what size, and how much should i expect to pay to have them made? Thanks in advance dsmr's

not talking about the intercooler, just his set up in general. And what makes an intercooler cheap? Material? Fins? Thats why I asked if there was any thing I needed to know about an intercooler like this. I could obviously tell that the price was cheap. Does any one know any thing about crafting an intercooler that can explain why this is a bad choice?

Its all about flow. You can have the biggest intercooler in the world on your car, but if it cant flow decent CFM, its gonna suck anyway you look at it. Personally, I am running a Street Imports FMIC (got it offa ebay, 23X9X3) and have good experience with it at 20psi.

You also want to check the type of core it is, bar and plate or tube and fin. If i remember correctly, the stock smic is a tube and fin, which isnt the best for high flow.

Well I emailed the guy and asked weather it was bar and plate or tube and fin, his reply was

"It is neither. It is extruded tube. Lighter than bar and plate and MUCH
stronger than tube and fin.
We also fabricate bar and plate if thats what you need. We will never sell
tube and fin as they are junk in our opinion.
David"

Also, how would I be able to know how much cfm it flows? How much does yours flow?

Well, im guessing that he doesnt have flow numbers for those intercoolers, so youd probly have to get it flow tested yourself.

i just had my front mount installed last week. for piping from the compressor outlet to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the throttle body was $500. also all bends were mandrel and i got the piping powder coated in red. looks badass, definitely worth the money.

Too small to be efficient imo. Keep in mind that a 33" long ic will make it harder to run the ic pipe on the driver side but then again, somthing that small will have plenty of room above it to run the ic pipe. And for bar and plate, I would never use one as long as it is in front of the radiator. They restrict too much airflow to the radiator. I pesonally run a core size of 22"x9"x3" tube and fin and love it. Increase of 3 psi with ic alone compared to smic and much better power curve(seat of pants dyno) Airflow on mine is 720 [email protected]" depression.

Your street imports cooler is tube and fin as well.

The intercooler in question here looks like a cut down ford powerstroke cooler which are extruded tube. Extruded tube are very popular for Diesel applications.
