Im in the final stretch of getting a turbo. I am looking at the biggest craze hybrid turbos. When i went to AGP website i like the RS series $825. When i read the introduction it, "These turbochargers come with dry (non water cooled, oil only) bearing housings so you will need to plug your factory water lines." So is it ok to plug off the water lines, will this affect the performance or life of the turbo? If i do decided to get an RS series turbo is there any precautions i should know of?and what can i do to prolong the life of the turbo:dsm:

Make sure you turbo time that bad boy, or else if you have lots of time, and dont have enough money for a turbo timer right now, LET IT IDLE FOR A COUPLE OF MIN, even if you dont drive it to hard.

If it was built to run without water cooling, and relies only on oil cooling, then it's okay.
Trying to run a water-cooled hub without cooling water can lead to trouble.

I agree that an oil-cooled turbo is more a candidate for a timer, but it's still better practice to drive easy the last couple of miles. If you're always parking by surprise, a timer would be called for.

I went to oil only and it simplified so much stuff in my engine bay, really I would never go back to water and oil.

As defiant said I also just drive slow for the last mile before I stop and let the car run for 30 seconds and that seems to be enough. Just dont beat it up and shut down the motor. You shouldn't have to do anything extra with an oil only vs what your doing now with your stock turbo. You never drive hard and shut it off, so don't do any differently here.

Besides when you install your turbo and forget about the water lines, your know then you made a good choice.

An oil cooler is by no means nessecary, but always a nice thing. If your a straight liner like me I wouldn't worry about it because I doubt your oil temps get very hot. If your into turning, then get one sometime, but its not an emergency.
