Sorry, I didn't know how to put a good title on this one.

Backround is that as of now, my 7-bolt is stock as far as the engine goes, and I'm looking into the extremeintercoolers.com's setups. I like what I see. Now they can hook me up as far as a full kit now, but in the future, I plan on putting a fully built 6-bolt head with a SMIM, and larger TB on it. He can do a 6-bolt engine with a SMIM (the Magnus or JM Fabrications), but they don't have anything for a 2g with a 7-bolt bottom and a 6-bolt with all that I am wanting to do.

What I'm getting at here is if you look at Dejon's site for example, they have a few types of setups and whatnot, so if you changed to a SMIM, you could just get a small part of their intercooler setup to replace what you already have an you would be good to go. You wouldn't need a whole new setup.

So the nice man at extremeintercoolers.com told me that I'd have to give him some measurements so he could make me a pipe to the TB (perfectly fair enough!!). There is no one around me that can help me out on this one, so if anyone knows, how much of a difference would a 7-bolt with a SMIM versus a 6-bolt with a SMIM (same TB) be? Couple of inches, or a couple of cm? I figure they should be damn close. Actually, I figured they should be just about the same.

Thanks!

Be sure to use the correct terminology. There are 6-bolt and 7-bolt 1G engines (89-94) and all uses the same 1G head. All 7-bolt 2G engines (95-99) uses the same 2G head.

I think the issue is with the SMIM itself. The 2G one has shorter runners than the 1G so the piping would be slightly different.

On my 1G, swapping to a SMIM lowered my TB by ~3". I was also able to use my old UIP but is at a slight angle. Could just as as easily have a couple inch taken out of the rise and have it rewelded for $20 locally :) :dsm:

Gotcha... yeah I wasn't exactly clear. This'll end up being a 1g head on a 2g. But thanks for the info.
