i have been having a rattling/clicking noise from my passenger side when i accelerate hard. its not rpm dependent, its not from engine or trans. only does it when car is rocked back from harsh acceleration or on a steep hill.

i've replaced both lower control arms (came w new bushings and ball joints)
replaced all struts, sway bar links, motor mounts, trans mount, both cv axles.

but today when i had the car on the lift i noticed that the inside CV joint had a little play in the trans, like i could grab it and push it in and out slightly but i could do it with both sides

so my questions is that normal to be able to shake it back and forth and get a little noise? or should it be firmly in there? and if not how would i fix that, both axles are brand new, not re-manned, and the trans was re-built about 12k miles ago.

Some play as you described is normal. Auto or stick? Is it like a few clicks here and there or a 1000 clicks in a row? If it is an auto, you might be hearing the solenoids.

its a 5 speed. and it sounds like a piece of metal banging back and forth between something. its spurradic not a evenly spaced clicking. it does it in lower gears high rpm's (4000 and up) but i can slow rev up to 7k and it wont do it, only when the body is rocked back.

it is litterally driving me nuts not knowing what it is, i have replaced all the items above trying to fix it... and it hasn't made it better or worse. tired of throwing parts at it, but when i was shaking it down i felt a little play where the cv goes into the trans.

Are the boots for the cv joints torn? Before I tore my 1g fwd apart, the same thing you're describing is what was going on. It just got progressively worse to the point where it would be making noise constantly and jerk the car violently.

Turns out my boots were torn and there was no grease left in it. You might be able to repack it if you catch it before its too late.

Are the boots for the cv joints torn? .

no both cv axles replaced (NEW MasterPro Select)

check to see if there are any kind of rub marks like maybe somethings hitting the firewall once it rocks back

and i can not see any wear marks ive had the thing on the lift like 5 times now. any other ideas?

Have you checked yout tie rods? I know they have to do with steering but the clicking sounds made me think of them I recently replaced my inner tie rods and it corrected a clicking noise. Just something else to consider.

On mine I only heard it sporadiclly at low speed turns but it was definitely a clicking sound. I'm not sure if that's what you are expiriencing or not and I'm definitely not an expert at suspension/steering, but just something else to consider.
